Overview:
The role of a Laboratory Animal Caretaker is crucial to maintaining the well-being and proper handling of laboratory animals. This position plays a vital role in supporting the research and development of scientific studies by ensuring the appropriate care, health, and living conditions of animals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide daily care and maintenance for laboratory animals, including feeding, watering, and cleaning housing areas
Monitor and report animal behavior, health, and conditions to research staff
Follow proper procedures for handling, restraining, and transporting animals
Assist in administering medications and treatments as directed by veterinary staff
Ensure that animal housing environments and equipment are clean and in good condition
Participate in the handling and restraint of animals for research procedures
Assist in the identification and record-keeping of animals
Perform general facility maintenance and sanitation tasks
Adhere to animal welfare regulations and guidelines
Collaborate with research staff to ensure the welfare of laboratory animals
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Prior experience in animal care, preferably in a laboratory setting
Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and animal handling techniques
Ability to follow detailed instructions and protocols
Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods
Good observational and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong communication skills and the ability to report observations accurately
Understanding of animal welfare regulations and ethical considerations
Ability to maintain clean and sanitary work environments
