Position Summary
The Laboratory Assistant processes outpatient test requests.
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will:
- Perform venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis and process specimens for analysis and reference testing.
- With supervision, may perform waived and moderately complex testing, chain-of-custody drug collections, and perform various other support services for the laboratory as assigned.
- Maintain required documentation to comply with accrediting agencies.
- Perform duties consistent with written procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Support the department in achieving department goals for service, quality, regulatory compliance, financial performance, patient satisfaction, healthy work environment, and integration of intra and inter-departmental activities.
Minimum Requirements
- High School, Equivalent (GED), or higher
- Completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation is recommended
Preferred
6 months experience in a hospital or reference laboratory setting, physician office, outpatient clinic, or other medical setting
Phlebotomy certification by ASCP or another nationally recognized certifying agency:
- National Healthcare Association (NHA) --Clinical Laboratory Phlebotomy Examination (CLPlb)
- American Society of Clinical Pathologists-- Phlebotomy Technician Examination [PBT(ASCP)]
- International Academy of Phlebotomy Sciences (IAPS)
- National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)
- American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT)
- National Phlebotomy Certification Examination (NPCE)
- National Phlebotomy Solutions (NPS)
- American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- Or another national certification as approved by Laboratory Service Line leadership
Other Information
- 40 hours a week
- Monday - Friday (11 am - 7:30 pm or 7 pm - 3:30 am)
- Required to work a Weekend Rotation for every 3rd weekend
- Required to work rotational holidays
- Shift/hours may be adjusted according to staffing and/or work load demands
