Responsibilities:- Receives and assesses all specimens for integrity into the laboratory.
- Distributes all acceptable specimens to appropriate lab sections.
- Aliquots, prepares and stores all specimens for referral testing.
- Performs waived testing.
- Obtains specimens by venipuncture when OPDS lab assistants are off duty.
- Reports to Laboratory Central Processing Coordinator or supervisor on duty.
- Receives general supervision from the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager of PI/POCT/Pathology.
Education
- High school education or equivalent.
- Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
Experience
- 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science.
(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).
Licensure/Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
Compensation/Benefits
- $14.47-$23.34/hr depending on previous work experience.
- Position qualifies for $1.75/hr night shift differential
