Education/Training:
Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science other science degrees accepted in conjunction with a combination of experience and training (as defined by CLIAInterpretive Guidelines §493.1449).
Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Science other science degrees accepted in conjunction with a combination of experience and training (as defined by CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493.1449).
Experience:
Varies with designated laboratory section.
Positions that do not require technical supervisor (as defined by CLIAInterpretive Guidelines §493.1449): At least one year clinical experience as defined in CLIA standards §493 under qualifications. Must have enhanced knowledgebase in laboratory area of expertise. Demonstrates evidence of recognizing the value of working successfully amongst team dynamics. Must be knowledgeable of laboratory regulations and proficient in aspects of continuous quality improvement. Experience in understanding concepts of laboratory medicine and how this knowledge can best be applied, in direct collaboration with the patient care team. High level of experience with Laboratory Information Systems. Supervisory experience preferred.
Positions that require technical supervisor (as defined by CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493.1449): At least 4 years clinical experience as defined in CLIA standards §493 under qualifications. The type of experience required under this regulation is clinical in nature. This means examination and test performance on human specimens for purposes of obtaining information for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients, or for providing information to others who will do the diagnosing and treating of the patient’s condition. The term “laboratory training or experience” means that the individual qualifying has the training in and the experience with the specialties and subspecialties in which the individual is performing technical supervision. For technical supervisor, the requirement for training or experience can be met through any combination of training and/or experience in high complexity testing. Must have enhanced knowledgebase in laboratory area of expertise. Demonstrates evidence of recognizing the value of working successfully amongst team dynamics. Must be knowledgeable of laboratory regulations and proficient in aspects of continuous quality improvement. Experience in understanding concepts of laboratory medicine and how this knowledge can best be applied, in direct collaboration with the patient care team. Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements:
Must possess appropriate experience, certification or registration to qualify as general testing personnel in accordance with CLIA Interpretive Guidelines §493. MLS (ASCP)/MLT (ASCP) or equivalent preferred.
