HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician III to support clinical research domestic and international field sites in the implementation of human subject research, and specifically laboratory operations required to run and maintain the studies.
This position will be in support of the Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO). Founded in 2010, the Austere environments Consortium for Enhanced Sepsis Outcomes (ACESO), is a consortium consisting of U.S. Government, non-profit, academic and industry partners. ACESO’s mission is to improve survival for patients with severe infections through development of rapid, point-of-care diagnostics and prognostics and evidence-based clinical management. Headquartered at HJF, ACESO runs clinical research studies across the US, Africa, and SE Asia, primarily. This will include COVID-19 research. ACESO is looking to hire a Laboratory Technician III to support our laboratory operations both domestically and abroad. This position is responsible for assisting the Laboratory Operations Specialist in supporting laboratory operations across all ACESO research sites. This will include procurement of study materials/supplies, managing cold chain requirements, troubleshooting laboratory equipment, and testing needs, providing laboratory supports to researchers on the ground.Assists in performing evaluation, development, oversight, set-up, training, monitoring, and review of the laboratory(s) to ensure quality practices are applied as required for ACESO research studies. Provides technical/administrative recommendations to space management, and laboratory supply management.

Responsibilities:- Supports ACESO’s international laboratory partners to ensure laboratory testing and experiments are performed according to protocol and that equipment and supplies are maintained according to SOPs. Supports laboratory quality assurance and quality control plans and procedures, as needed. Ensures that lab equipment are evaluated at least once each year. Assists in drafting SSPs/SOPs for implementation of ACESO protocols and general operations. (35%)
- Monitors inventory/ordering by establishing and maintaining par levels and re-stocking points for standard laboratory supplies, equipment, and instruments. Follows HJF protocols in procurement and works closely with Buyers and finance team to ensure purchases are approved and adhere to company/study/funder requirements. (20%)
- Work with all involved parties (assigned technician, computer center, end users, and site leadership) to ensure that both the equipment and operational needs are met. Inventory lab equipment at least once each year. Equipment inventory list must be updated any time a major piece of equipment is moved in or out of the lab and the updated inventory list sent to HJF Fixed Assets office. (15%)
- Coordinates with on-site lab supervisors to ensure that the lab stays safe and orderly and take prompt corrective action when unsafe conditions, practices, or equipment are reported or observed. Encourage prompt reporting of health and safety concerns. (15%)
- When needed, assists in enrollment of subjects, to include phlebotomy, completion of informed consents, and data entry. Provides operational support during times of enrollment to include packing/transport of materials/supplies and specimens. (10%)
- May assist in conducting laboratory tests at ACESO’s laboratory, to include receipt, storage, and processing of samples. May assist in managing sample shipments from and to ACESO research sites. (5%)
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Education and Experience
- Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred within life science.
- Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical knowledge of scientific disciplines.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory within a research setting.
- Knowledge of and skill in laboratory technique and handling biological and chemical hazards and their safe use and disposal.
- International exposure preferred.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to travel to domestic and international sites. This includes extended flights and stays in the Global South.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
- The hourly pay range for this position is $24.09 - $34.14. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
