Lateral Police Officer must have a minimum of one year of satisfactory full-time employment as a sworn officer in a Municipal, County or State Police Department within the State of California. Possession of a valid California Basic P.O.S.T. certificate is required.

What We're Looking for
The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Lateral Police Officer. The lateral Police Officer perform duties to protect life and property within the city. Maintains law and order and respond to emergency calls. May patrol the city enforcing the criminal and traffic laws of the city, state and nation. Performs background investigations, or perform training duties.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the full working class in law enforcement. Incumbents appointed to this class may not have related work experience but will possess law enforcement training. Initially, incumbents will be assigned to patrol and work under close supervision, performing the more routine duties assigned to positions in this class. However, as experience is gained, incumbents are expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned with increasing independence. Special assignments in police-related functions (within or outside of patrol) may be available to experienced incumbents, depending on the needs of the department. Appointment to a special assignment is at the discretion of the Police Chief.
The Police Officer is distinguished from the Police Sergeant in that the latter serves as the first line supervisor and has responsibility for the development, coordination, and evaluation of sworn personnel that are part of a work shift, division, or bureau.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives technical supervision from a Police Sergeant or higher level sworn classification. May provide technical supervision to non-sworn personnel.
