About the Role:
As the Lead Aerodynamicist, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of innovative aerodynamic solutions for over-the-road trucks and trailers. From concept to production, you will be hands-on in developing and optimizing advanced aerodynamic technologies, using tools like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to validate and implement world-class designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the conceptualization, development, and prototyping of aerodynamic devices for trucks and trailers
- Design, optimize, and validate aerodynamic solutions using CFD and other tools
- Collaborate with OEM partners to generate product requirements and oversee development testing
- Perform CFD simulations, surface modifications, and aerodynamic analyses, working closely with a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, customers, and suppliers
- Create and manage CAD models, drawings, and Bills of Material; fabricate prototypes, tooling, and fixtures for production
- Conduct internal testing, customer facility testing, and third-party validations to ensure aerodynamic performance goals are met
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Automotive Engineering
- 3 years of experience in aerodynamic design and development
- Advanced proficiency in CFD methods, with experience applying them to ground vehicle aerodynamics or thermal management
- Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing
- Experience in product design, development, and hands-on prototyping/fabrication
- Proficiency in CAD (Solidworks preferred) and scripting (Java, Python, Bash, etc.)
- Experience in grid generation for complex geometries and CFD solution development
- Strong communication, project management, and multitasking skills
- Experience in the automotive, trucking, or motorsports industries a plus
- Hands-on prototyping and production experience, particularly in heavy trucking preferred
- Familiarity with Star-CCM, FEA (Ansys preferred), and advanced aerodynamic knowledge a plus
