About the Job
The Lead Automation Engineer at Heartland Controls will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of complex automation systems. This role requires a highly experienced engineer who can manage large-scale projects, oversee a team of engineers, and ensure the successful integration of automation solutions into industrial processes. The Lead Automation Engineer will work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to deliver solutions that optimize performance and productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Automation System Design & Development: Lead the design, programming, and integration of control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial automation equipment.
- Project Management: Oversee multiple automation projects from initial concept through installation and commissioning, ensuring all milestones, deadlines, and budgets are met.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of automation engineers, providing technical guidance and ensuring that projects are executed to the highest standards.
- System Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and electrical engineers, to integrate automation solutions seamlessly with industrial processes.
- Programming & Troubleshooting: Develop, test, and troubleshoot control systems to ensure they meet client requirements and operate efficiently.
- Client Communication: Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, understanding their needs and providing automation solutions that align with their objectives.
- Technical Support & Maintenance: Provide ongoing support for existing automation systems, troubleshooting issues and implementing upgrades or improvements as needed.
- Compliance & Documentation: Ensure that all automation systems comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Maintain detailed project documentation and create user manuals.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance automation processes and technologies, staying current with industry trends and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in industrial automation, with a focus on control systems and automation engineering.
- Proven leadership experience in managing large-scale automation projects and teams.
- Expertise in PLC programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMI development, and SCADA systems.
- Strong understanding of industrial control systems, sensors, actuators, and communication protocols (Ethernet, Modbus, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex automation issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working directly with clients and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations related to automation systems.
