WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Assistant VP, Civil Engineering PM in Power Generation for our Portland office. Be involved in projects with our NW Pacific Power and Energy Team and be a part of a part of a rapidly expanding group that provides trusted advisor and engineer of record services to clients in the energy sector throughout the western United States.
This position directly advances local and regional responses to Climate Change by supporting the owners and operators of clean hydro power and other renewable resources. This role provides Civil Engineering and Project Management expertise, including high-level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects in the public and private sector. Tasks include project planning, budget, schedule, and scope development. Managing multiple discipline task leaders and negotiating with clients and their representatives. Overseeing the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of energy facilities, specifically hydropower, as well as solar, wind or biomass power plants; transmission and distribution substations. Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installations, design, component, and construction specifications. Your Impact:
Lead a variety of Civil Engineering projects including the planning and completion of inspections and investigations on hydropower structures and other renewable energy developments, determining the safety and efficacy of such facilities or structures, execute rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, as well as new design and construction projects.
Technical Responsibilities:
Ability to manage complex projects with variable objectives and aggressive timelines.
Lead hydropower projects, dam safety, spillway and tunnels, and seismic remediation projects.
Maintaining and enhancing client relationships and working closely with key client relationship managers. Support project pursuits including estimating budgets, scope of work, and schedules.
Leadership Responsibilities:
May arrange, lead, monitor, and supervise a group of employees to achieve goals that contribute to the growth of the organization.
Conduct Performance Analysis & Provide Feedback/Suggestions for internal growth.
Project Management & Allocation of Team Members/Resources to handle specifics projects.
May mentor and lead advancing team members in project management and/or Civil Engineering
Who You Are:
Strong knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.
Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), Flow 3D, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
Previous acceptance by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for work on high-hazard embankment dams and other hydropower facilities.
7+ years of relevant post education experience in hydro power engineering and design experience.
Engineer license required (Oregon, Washington, or California preferred).
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field
PMP Certification
40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
