WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Civil Engineer for our Glastonbury, CT office. Be involved in projects with our Northeast Transportation Civil Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides high level technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks include the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of facilities, roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment. Substantiates reports and documentation to advise on material, installation, design, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
- Lead a Civil/Highway design team.
- Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
- Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, hydraulics, traffic, and utilities, etc.
- Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E)
- Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
- Participate in preparation of technical proposals and labor estimates.
- Maintain positive client relationships. Commitment to quality and continuous improvement through innovation, creative thinking and improved results
- Establish and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with all employees, clients and other stakeholders.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address engineering, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in the design and preparation of construction contract documents
- Connecticut Professional Engineers license or the ability to obtain the same within 6 months.
- Experience working with CTDOT and/or Rail Projects.
- Proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build procedures, and their application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Extensive knowledge of infrastructure design.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
- Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to occasionally work modified schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Experience with MicroStation V8i and InRoads.
- Design experience with rail design and operations and Program Management.
- Affiliation with local professional societies.
