About the Job
Schedules and prepares meals; plans menus; orders supplies; and maintains cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas.
Job Duties:Schedules and assigns specific tasks to cooks and cook aides. Oversees menu preparation by verifying ingredients and supplies removed from the stock noting the quantity and type of inventory removed. Demonstrates and instructs subordinates in the operation and care of cooking equipment. Oversees the cooking of foodstuffs in quantities according to menu and number of persons to be served. Oversees the washing of dishes. Plans menus while taking advantage of available sources. Oversees the serving of meals. Orders supplies and keeps records and accounts. Trains volunteers and other employees assigned to kitchen or dining areas. Maintains records as required. Oversees the work of employees cleaning kitchen and dining areas as well as the equipment used in preparing and serving the food. Enforces required rules and regulations as needed. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Minimal supervisory responsibility (i.e. lead position).
Qualifications:EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Prefer some courses in food preparation or nutrition.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
At least three (3) years of experience in food service for schools or government programs is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a Food Handlers Card. Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
