PRIMARY JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor performs a wide variety of tests. Studies chemical composition of blood constituents, body fluids, blood morphology needed to obtain data to clinicians for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
PRIMARY JOB QUALIFICATIONS
*****Must have hematology experience
Registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MT ASCP) or equivalent experience.
3 to 5 years of clinical laboratory experience.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or a Bachelor’s Degree in the biological sciences and completion of an A.M.A. approved Medical Technology Program, which would provide an understanding of clinical tests and standards and applicable procedures/techniques or equivalent experience.
Ability to schedule personnel, assign work, monitor and implement quality control and standards programs.
The manual dexterity and visual acuity to prepare specimen and solutions and microscopically screen specimens.
The analytical ability to evaluate test procedures, interpret and analyze test results, perform calculations, calibrate instruments and evaluate personnel.
The technical expertise to operate all equipment and to perform routine and advanced clinical diagnostic testing procedures.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
Assists in implementation of new methods and procedures.
Assists in resolving technical problems.
Assists in assuring adherence to standard operating protocols, technical references, state and federal regulations.
Identifies errors in testing procedures and assists the supervisor in corrective action plans.
Monitors and submits data regarding test correlation studies, quality control, quality improvement and reporting of test results.
Assists in optimizing utilization of facilities, equipment and personnel.
Assists with achieving laboratory goals and objectives regarding quality control, quality, service, cost and profit.
Reports major problems anticipated or encountered and major findings and results achieved to the supervisor with recommendations.
Trains new employees on laboratory procedures and policies.
Assists in employee annual performance evaluation and disciplinary action.
Performs supervisory duties when assigned.
Conforms to the established Standards of Behavior.
Other duties as assigned.
