Oil, Products & Gas (“OPG”) Law has a team of Legal Analysts (paralegals) who provide transactional and commercial support for the Downstream, Chemicals and Midstream (“DCM”) businesses. This position provides legal support for the Shipping business units and reports to the Supervisor, Legal Analysts, DCM, OPG Law.
This position requires a highly skilled Legal Analyst who is knowledgeable in contracting and exhibits strong leadership and influencing skills.
Responsibilities:
This position will perform paralegal tasks under the guidance and direction of attorneys, including:
+ Prepare and negotiate a variety of agreements including, but not limited to the following: Letter of Indemnity, Charter Parties, Contracts of Affreightments, Procurement Agreements, Emission Trading Scheme provision (EU-ETS), all based on consultation with business partners and review by attorneys.
+ Complete Maritime Operator’s Holding Account (CTCL MOHA) applications.
+ Engage with and provide recommendations (risk analysis) to business partners contract administrators and attorneys on counterparty’s changes to legal terms in agreements
+ Work closely with subject matter experts in tax, finance, intellectual property, information risk management, compliance, and insurance to integrate guidance into negotiations and agreements
+ Analyze and summarize documents for review by business partners and attorneys.
+ Perform legal due diligence and legal research.
+ Work closely with business partners and attorneys to resolve a variety of day-to-day issues and support a broad range of commercial transactions and/or projects.
+ Recommend develop and implement process improvements and simplification of tasks.
Required Qualifications:
+ Minimum of five years of experience as a paralegal negotiating and drafting agreements
+ Ability to effectively analyze and communicate legal issues and collaborate across broad functional and organizational lines (e.g. subject matter experts, business partners, law professionals and attorneys)
+ Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain high quality performance with competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced work environment
+ Strong organizational, analytical, proofreading, editing, and research skills
+ Strong communication (both oral and written), collaboration and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to give effective feedback (both positive and constructive) and receive feedback (both positive and constructive) and act upon it
+ Self-starter who is adept at working in a team environment and partnering with management, business partners, in-house counsel, outside counsel, and staff
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and think independently on how to solve problems and offer solutions.
+ Demonstrate a growth mindset.
+ Ability to commit to contributing your perspective in a professional manner.
+ Demonstrated initiative, ownership and accountability.
+ Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools, and the ability to quickly learn new tools
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Law degree from an ABA-accredited school.
+ Bachelor’s degree.
+ Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
+ Experience in Maritime Law
+ Advanced skillset in Microsoft Office tools (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Forms, OneNote, Sway and Visio).
+ Experience with Ironclad
