The Legal Talent Recruiting Manager will oversee student and lateral attorney recruiting for various assigned offices and practice groups. The Legal Talent Recruiting Manager is responsible for executing many of the goals and activities of Troutman Pepper’s Legal Talent Recruiting Team and will collaborate directly with relevant partners, staff, and other stakeholders around the firm.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with practice group leadership, business professionals, attorneys, and the Director of Legal Talent Recruiting to determine strategy for hiring students and laterals.
Support the Firm's strategic initiatives with respect to hiring, onboarding, and integrating summer associates and lateral attorneys.
Support student recruiting activities at law schools, including raising the profile of Troutman Pepper on campus, participating in law school events, panels, sponsorships, and executing on strategy and relationship management with law school career services and student groups.
Oversee summer associate programs for assigned offices, including but not limited to managing work assignments, evaluations, reviews, social events, and substantive summer associate trainings.
Work with Recruiting Committee Chairs to execute recruiting strategy for assigned offices and engage committee members in recruiting and integration activities during OCI, the summer associate program, and the 1L hiring season.
Manage the lateral hiring process, including reviewing candidate resumes, coordinating interview schedules, participating in interviews, and negotiating offers.
Collaborate with administrative teams including Practice Management, HR, Legal Talent Development, Lateral Partner Recruiting, Finance, and Marketing to ensure a seamless recruitment and onboarding experience and process for lateral hires.
Regularly report and present to practice group leadership regarding best practices, recruitment plans, progress, feedback, and themes.
Provide strategic guidance in connection with the attraction, assessment, and management of candidates and implementing consistency with related processes.
Manage relationships with search firms.
Keep abreast of key market issues and trends. Track information and analyze competitive data, best practices, and trends to provide strategic recommendations to practice group and office leadership.
Manage and oversee the annual budget for assigned region(s).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong working knowledge of and familiarity with legal markets.
Sophisticated strategic and analytical thinking, drive, initiative, and problem-solving skills required.
Effective client service skills, with proven organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and multi-task while meeting multiple deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of personnel.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, as well as strong attention to detail and organization is required.
Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule that will occasionally require travel and extended hours.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of five (5) years of legal recruiting/talent management experience in a law firm or other professional services setting required; candidates without legal recruiting/talent management experience may be considered with a J.D. and a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a practicing lawyer at a large law firm.
