Salary: The salary range is $47,648 - $79,741 . Starting salary is based on professional work experience, qualifications, and related legislative/government experience.
Telework: This position works on-site in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol during the legislative session. When the legislature is not in session, flexible hybrid options may be available.
Days of Work/Hours: Monday-Friday/8am-5pm. This position requires long and irregular hours and the ability to meet tight deadlines during the legislative session, including evening and weekend work. Additional paid time off will be available.

Position Summary
The Legislative Assistant conducts administrative functions for the DFL Research and Media departments. This position will coordinate and distribute caucus-wide communications (i.e., newspaper, radio, advocate lists, media websites, write communications, and attend press conferences), proofread and copy research and media documents, assist in research projects and writing assignments, respond to Senator and staff requests, and follow committee activity. This position will work closely with DFL Researchers and DFL Media Relations Specialists.
An ideal candidate will have a demonstrable interest in the legislative process, communications, and public policy. We seek someone who has strong customer service, organizational, research, and writing skills to effectively communicate with Senators, staff, and external audiences.

Minimum Qualifications
Degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, Public Policy, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related area of study.
OR
One (1) year of work experience in state government, policy advocacy, community organization, customer service in an office setting, administrative support, media relations, social media, legislative session serving in any capacity, or related.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:
- Exceptional organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
- High accuracy and attention to detail to effectively proofread, copy edit, check spelling and grammar, and review documents.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, executive branch personnel, media personnel, lobbyists, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
- Knowledge of AP Style.
- Basic knowledge of working with websites.
Competencies
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple on-going projects.
