The Sonnenburg Lab in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology is recruiting for a Life Science Technician (LST). The LST will mainly work in supporting sample management with our expanding human clinical trials. The LST will be required to prepare tubes for biospecimen collection (blood and stool), perform sample accounting, and aliquot biospecimens according to detailed protocols provided. In addition, the LST will provide a supporting role to the lab manager with preparing bacteria culture media, managing incoming lab supplies, and chemical waste management. Accurate and detailed record keeping are a vital part of this position. Ability to work collaboratively with researchers (PI, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and research staff) is essential. This is a part-time position (4 hours/day, Monday through Friday).
This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in wet lab work, ie pipetting and sterile technique, is desired but not required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
One year’s employment experience in laboratory work or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience/training (e.g., one year of college science).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Work requires the ability to follow detailed instructions and keep accurate records.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:
+ Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
+ Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
+ Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds
+ Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
+ Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
+ Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
