NATURE OF WORK
The City is looking for someone who has electrical experience. This position works with a team of lift station mechanics who help maintain and repair sanitary lift stations, wastewater treatment plant and reclaimed pumping stations, two potable water treatment plants, and all associated mechanical and electrical equipment, piping, and structures. This position exercises sound mechanical judgment based on technical knowledge and experience. Work is done under the primary supervision and direction of the Lift Station Foreman.

This position participates in a variety of maintenance construction activities such as:
- Inspects pumps, motors, and check valves for excessive wear, proper lubrication, and efficient operations.
- Pulls and replaces submersible pumps.
- Performs scheduled maintenance on department mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Repairs and/or replaces motors, pumps, piping, structures, and associated equipment.
- Assists in repair and/or replacement of electrical panels, telemetry equipment, and controllers.
- Diagnoses problems and initiates proper repair procedures.
- Works within confined spaces such as wet wells, manholes, other structures.
- Operates and maintains equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
- Understands and reads computer generated telemetry reports on statuses of individual lift stations and lift station systems in general.
- Operates telemetry system for monitoring and trouble-shooting lift stations and generates associated reports.
- Trouble-shoots electrical control systems.
- Has knowledge and ability to use a laptop or desktop computer to create electronic work orders and asset management systems as it relates to maintenance and repair of lift stations and associated equipment.
- Operates chain hoist and/or crane truck for removal and/or placement of equipment, motors, and pumps.
- Understands safe lifting and rigging practices.
- Assists with complete overhaul and rebuild of existing equipment and structures.
- Performs related work as required and/or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The ability to understand and comprehend area maps as they relate to sanitary lift stations, wastewater treatment plant and reclaimed pumping stations, two potable water treatment plants sewer mains. Ability to deal with the public and co-workers in a professional and effective manner. Ability to use tools while bending, kneeling, stopping, standing, sitting, and/or stretching. Ability to work at heights, on scaffolding, on ladders, and in confined spaces. May be required to use tools in any of the listed positions for long uninterrupted periods of times. The ability to safely set up and operate tools and equipment such as, but not limited to power tools, hand tools, pneumatic jack hammer, hydraulic pumps, engine powered pumps, and cranes. Ability to work in confined spaces such as small above-ground structures, underground structures, “can” style lift stations, wet wells, vaults, manholes, and excavated trenches. Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving evaluation of equipment and information.
This position is an “essential position” which requires personnel to report to work (as needed) during a “state of emergency”. Regular reliable full-time attendance is required. Ability to work on weekends and holidays, to be called out and respond to calls during non-scheduled work hours. This position requires being part of a rotating emergency schedule and the ability to respond and handle all after-hour lift station, wastewater plant, reclaimed pump stations, or water plant emergency alarms.
Training and Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Some experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical equipment is preferred. Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics is preferred. Must complete a program course in the Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Collection Systems and confined space training within two (2) years. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with a record acceptable to the City’s driving policy and insurance program. Must be able to maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public, department supervisors, city leaders, and regulation agency. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications except for required certification.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (i.e. exposure to chemicals, dust, aerosols, biohazard, loud noises, confined and elevated spaces). Work requires moderate to extreme exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e. irate customers, inclement weather, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, odors, confined spaces, slippery surfaces, elevated heights, and/or dust). Periodic heavy manual labor under adverse conditions.
