Job Summary:
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food to the chef’s specifications, ensuring that dishes are served on time and meet quality standards. They work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure a smooth flow of operations and contribute to maintaining an organized, clean, and safe kitchen environment.
Key Job duties
• Food Preparation: Prepare and cook menu items according to the chef’s recipes and standards, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.
• Station Management: Manage assigned station (e.g., grill, sauté, prep) and set up necessary equipment and supplies for service.
• Ingredient Preparation: Chop vegetables, prepare sauces, and portion ingredients for service.
• Cooking Duties: Operate various kitchen equipment (e.g., grills, fryers, ovens) and monitor cooking times and temperatures.
• Quality Control: Maintain high food quality and presentation standards; check dishes for accuracy and presentation before serving.
• Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels, report shortages, and assist in stocking supplies.
• Cleanliness and Hygiene: Maintain a clean work station, follow sanitation protocols, and comply with health and safety regulations.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other line cooks, sous chefs, and kitchen staff to ensure efficient food service.
• Adaptability: Be able to switch between different kitchen stations and assist team members as needed during busy periods.
Skills and Qualifications
• Experience: Previous experience as a line cook or in a similar kitchen role preferred.
• Skills: Strong cooking skills, knife handling, time management, and the ability to follow recipes accurately.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to work long shifts while standing, and handle the physical demands of a busy kitchen environment.
• Attention to Detail: Keen attention to food presentation and ingredient measurements.
• Teamwork: Ability to work well with other staff members in a fast-paced environment.
• Adaptability: Ability to handle pressure during peak dining times and multi-task effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Culinary Training: Certification or coursework in culinary arts is a plus.
