About this position:
As a Linux Admin, your role is pivotal in ensuring the reliable operation and security of our Linux/UNIX-based systems. You will be responsible for tasks such as installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and software, as well as monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise. You'll manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems, while also implementing and maintaining system backups and disaster recovery procedures. Collaboration with other IT teams to support organizational initiatives and projects is essential. Strong technical skills in Linux/UNIX systems, scripting languages like Bash or Python, and a knack for problem-solving are key qualifications for this role.
Salary Range: 80k- 125k - commensurate with the candidate's skills, experience, location, and qualifications.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
- Perform daily system monitoring to ensure the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes. Review system and application logs, verify the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, and evaluate scan results to monitor system compliance.
- Optimize resource utilization, conduct system capacity analysis and planning, and document issues using the ITSM ticketing system for trouble management.
- Automate daily administrative tasks and remediate Security Vulnerabilities as per corporate security guidelines and address audit findings.
- Troubleshoot performance issues independently and/or in conjunction with other middleware and database administrators.
- Assist in documenting current, revised and new processes and procedures.
- Assist researching and planning implementation of upgrades, security patches and fixes.
- Troubleshoot and provide proactive support for production and non-production application servers, ensuring full compliance of the Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Provide guidance at disaster recovery exercises. Break fix on application jobs and claim, complete request tickets each month.
- Ensure changes follow appropriate Agile and release management processes.
- Raise awareness of application, tool and data issues and resolutions with appropriate personnel.
- Respond to and resolve reported application, data, or tool issues in a timely manner.
- Identify and resolve advanced application issues using appropriate code languages, toolsets, or configuration processes.
- Stay up to date with advances in information technology by reading manuals, trade periodicals, and technical reports relating to middleware technology.
Required Education/Qualifications:
- Security Clearance: Top-Secret security clearance, fully adjudicated.
- Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of AWS and the cloud ecosystem
- Working knowledge with RHEL 7+.
- Education: Associate degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent field, or equivalent experience/combined education
- Certifications: Security+ CE Certification required
- Preferred certifications could include but are not limited to:
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
- CompTIA Linux+
- Linux/UNIX System Administration Certification
- Extensive working knowledge and development experience with Bash scripting and automation with Cron
- Extensive working knowledge with Linux
- Self-driven, customer-focused, Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy.
- Experience in Agile and DevSecOps methodologies, and project management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of networking concepts, such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls, can be beneficial
- Experience with tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl for automation
- Familiarity with database management systems - such as Oracle and SQL Server
