Concept Plus is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator who is able to perform phases of the broader assignments, which are designed to enable the candidate to develop knowledge and skills sufficient to perform the full scope of the major duties as described at the full performance level. UNIX systems administrator implements security upgrades to systems, manages user accounts on systems, website administration, performs backup and restores of system data, audits access to system resources, collaborates with NMFS HQ, other FMCs, and local staff on requirements and problem resolutions. Carries out projects as support for research teams, working individually, or as a part of an IT team working with other IT and science staff, as an integral member of a larger initiative.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serves as a system administrator in assigned non-Windows OS (MAC, UNIX, LINUX) utilizing ability to load, configure, and maintain current network OS capabilities; deploys and installs servers, loads and configures customer software, configures and connects client workstations to networks/servers and shared devices.
- Planning for backup and recovery of database information. Maintaining archived data and backing up and restoring the databases.
- Working with various vendors for technical support. Uses IT resources and follows applicable IT policies and procedures.
- Follows established standard operating procedures and offers updates and enhancements when needed.
- Provides technical input for the planning and coordination of the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT hardware/software systems and a variety of associated hardware/software. Working as part of a team, manages IT resources ensuring effective performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
- Uses system administration skills to plan, install, configure, and maintain a variety of products and services to include DNS services, authentication services, system logging, file servers, etc.
- Provides administrative, technical and planning support for cloud-based services.
- Ensures IT security directives, policies and mandates are implemented and monitored to keep the information system compliant.
- Works directly with Information System Security Officer and System Owner to collect and interpret information required for documenting and reporting on the information system.
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years of relevant experience
- Fully fluent in RedHat / CentOS Linux 7 & 8; Oracle Linux 9; Ubuntu; SELinux; various Linux security tools and
methodologies. - Fluent with bash and perl scripts.
- Comfortable with rsyslog, sendmail, postfix, ssh, sudo, sftp, X11, etc.
- Additional Linux-hosted software packages:
- Familiar with installing, operating, and patching Vertitas Netbackup version 10+.
- Full understanding of Docker, Tomcat, HTTPD (including use as proxies) configuration, setup, and support; installation and support of Tomcat-hosted applications (WAR files).
- Familiar with Oracle Enterprise Database 19c and database gateway installation, configuration, trouble-shooting, and patching
- Familiar with Oracle APEX / ORDS server-side version 23+ installation under Tomcat: configuration, trouble-shooting, and patching
- Can build and support Linux hosts as virtual machines on VMWare hypervisors.
- Capable of supporting GitLab, SubVersion, MySQL, R-server, and AIDE services, plus miscellaneous client tools such as Nessus, BigFix, FireEye, etc.
- Must be willing to work HST hours with occasional PST hours (Normal Shift 3p-11p EST)
Preferred Qualification:
- Oracle DBA experience
