Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Upper School Spanish Teacher (Winter 2024/Spring 2025)
Porter-Gaud is an Episcopal, coeducational day school serving more than 1,000 students in grades 1-12. The O'Quinn Schools of Porter-Gaud serve an additional 600 preschool students from age two through kindergarten. The School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute for Upper School Spanish for a 12 week period beginning approximately at the beginning of December through approximately March 21, 2025.
The Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Upper School Spanish will be responsible for instructing Upper School students in Spanish in accordance with the content and objectives of the curriculum prescribed by the Upper School division. The successful candidate must not only be highly proficient in the target language but should evidence knowledge of the developmental level of Upper School students and their needs. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for working with adolescents and encourage them to grow in their knowledge and proficiency. This Upper School Spanish teacher will supervise students in academic classes and an advisory and will also supervise students in numerous extra- and co-curricular activities of the school. This Teacher will demonstrate a commitment to the well-being of all Porter-Gaud students and to the best interests of the school as a whole.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Possess the ability to instruct Upper School students in Spanish from the novice to the advanced levels in accordance with curriculum requirements and objectives, making effective use of technology and other instructional materials as appropriate.
- Establish and actively maintain a class environment where excellence in learning ishonored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.
- Work with students to develop a love of learning, a sense of academic integrity, and a thoughtful work ethic.
- Inspire a love of and an appreciation for languages and diverse cultures in our
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and assessments, which address multiple learning styles and modalities.
- Serve as advisor to a small group of students and participate in various Upper School activities such as committees, division level meetings, clubs and organizations.
- Display a willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school. Participate as an active team member within the World Language Department, the Upper School faculty, and the school community as a whole.
The successful candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in field.
- A high degree of proficiency in Spanish.
- Proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom.
- Ability to support the school's diversity and inclusion efforts. The Upper School Spanish Language Teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Reporting: The Upper School Spanish teacher will report directly to the Head of the Upper School and will take direction from the World Language Department Chair.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
