Maintenance Support Technician

This position is located in Tallahassee, FL.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible to a Groundskeeping Supervisor II or III. This position must be able to work independently, be able to follow directions and instructions, and have the skill to serve as a crew leader in the absence of the supervisor. This incumbent shall provide assistance in maintaining the Capitol Center Grounds. Specifically, this position involves vehicle maintenance, PM records and equipment inventory. Also, the incumbent will perform work maintaining trees and shrubs by trimming, fertilizing, and transplanting.
Maintenance Support Duties:
+ Sign out/in all vehicles, vehicle logs, WEX cards on a daily basis.
+ Maintain vehicle logs, PM records, repair records.
+ Transport vehicles to repair facilities for service/repair.
+ Weekly check fluid levels in all vehicles.
+ Fill and Transport fuel cans to Grounds fuel storage for equipment use.
+ Sign out all gasoline used for equipment.
+ Sign out/in all power equipment on a daily basis.
+ Fill out any equipment repair work orders.
+ Maintain inventory of all power equipment.
+ Run all equipment not in regular use on a monthly basis (to maintain in good working order).
+ Sweep/Clean equipment storage area.
+ Secure building entries and gates at close of business.
+ Also performs work maintaining trees and shrubs to include trimming, fertilizing, transplanting, etc.
+ Operates mechanized equipment in the care and maintenance of Capitol Center Grounds. Including turf, trees, shrubs, ground covers, annuals planting or other such plant materials.
+ Mows and edges turf, trims hedges and shrubs, waters landscape, plants foliage materials and other jobs associated with these actions.
+ Cleans grounds of trash and debris as required.
Other Miscellaneous Duties:
+ Ability to understand and take directions from supervisor, recognize problems or potential problems and communicate those findings to supervisor.
+ Performs groundskeeping duties as needed.
Public Relations Duties:
+ Incumbent maintains good public relations with peers, supervision and tenants in the building.
+ Establishes and maintains good working relationship with others.
+ Responds to all requests and inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
+ Keeps supervisor fully informed regarding work-related activities, relevant issues, upcoming events and potential problems.
+ Ensures requests for leave are submitted and approved in accordance with established rules and Division Procedures.
+ Adheres to established safety procedures and practices in the work area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in irrigation, building, mechanical and/or operation, or in treating diseased or damaged trees.
+ Ability to identify common plants, proper plant maintenance technique, including mowing, pruning, and cleanup.
+ Skill in using appropriate hand and power tools.
+ Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
+ Ability to communicate effectively.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
+ Ability to model behaviors of Accountability, Communication, Empowerment, flexibility, Respect, Integrity, Teamwork.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Valid Class E Driver’s License.
+ One year of lawn care experience and one year experience in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems, buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment. Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours.
+ Physical Characteristics: This position requires prolonged periods of time walking, standing, bending, lifting and the use of all types of ladders and occasional use of personnel lift.
+ Ability to operate all equipment used by the Grounds Section including but not limited to all lawn mowing equipment, week eaters, blowers, tractors and line marking equipment
+ Additional background checks may be required.
