SUMMARY:
The performance in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory, chemical and biological tests to analyze or measure specific components in material obtained from the human body. The making of decision in work by applying standards and definition within established procedures. The knowledge and understanding of principles and parameters of test procedures to integrate, correlate, or evaluate the data obtained to insure validity of results.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Education and/or Experience: Must have at minimum an associate degree in science (MLT) and a West Virginia TechnologistState License.
Communication Skills: Must have good communication skills. Must be able to communicate with all department employees, physicians, and all other hospital contacts in a professional manner.
Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to solve practical problems. Must have ability to interpret and issue a variety of instructions: verbal, written, diagram or in schedule form.
Computer Skills: Preferred individual with computer experience, however, will train individual on Laboratory Information System (LIS).

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
VISUAL ACUITY, HEARING ACUITY, AND MANUAL DEXTERITY:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls, reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop and kneel.
Must be able to see and read test instruments and results. Must be able to see and identify patients if collecting samples. Must be able to see computer screen and computer printouts to know which tests to perform and result.
Must have manual dexterity to handle and run instruments. Must have manual dexterity to perform venous sticks. Must be able to communicate to the patient pertinent information concerning collection of specimens and nature of tests.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to work in moderately noisy and brightly lighted area with moving mechanical parts.
