The Machine Operator I operates diverse types of machinery in an assigned cell, to produce several types of Medical Devices, including implants. Equipment used depends on the product being manufactured or operation being performed and may vary from cell to cell. Under the direction of the supervisor and/or cell lead, works to ensure production requirements are met, product quality is maintained, machine maintenance schedules are adhered to and safety rules are followed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates diverse types of equipment used to manufacture various types of Medical Devices established within the manufacturing processes and quality requirements.
- Completes tasks using technology systems such as PLM, MES, Microsoft Office, ERP systems, etc.
- Operator Asset Care on a regular basis such as, but not limited to, process machine maintenance.
- Completes rework or reprocessing, as necessary, on products rejected by process in the specification. Works with other production areas and cell leaders, as necessary, to resolve quality problems.
- Works following appropriate safety practices and/or JSAs to prevent accidents to self or co-workers.
- Know and follow all policies that apply to one's job, and maintain the highest levels of professionalism, ethics, and compliance always.
- Ensures that in process quality checks are completed following established quality specifications. Interface with quality and other production employees to resolve problems.
- Works in accordance with all requirements for manufacturing medical devices (e.g. FDA QSR, ISO 9000, ISO 13485).
- Completes required documentation as required by process, and inspection sheets, work instructions, and the document traceability.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required on a regular basis.
- Ability to learn and adhere to specific procedures according to the department training plan.
- Knows and follows all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintains the highest levels of professionalism, ethics, and compliance at all times.
- Partners with engineering team to ensure completion of expansion & validation activities in a timely manner, acting as subject matter expert where applicable or providing correct point of contact to operator subject matter expert.
- Follow all applicable EHS&S policies and procedures which includes PPE, work practices, and control measures. Promptly report EHS&S Incidents and Good Saves Complete EHS&S training and CAPAs on-time. Ensure department waste is segregated for proper disposal (recycle vs trash).
- Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
- Responsible for following all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices as applicable.
- For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
- Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties assigned as needed
Machinist Tasks
- Haas HT/CB Operations; DMG Mori and Mori NTX Operations; Mori Milltap Operations - responsible for operating CNC machinery and utilize inspection tools to perform the operations required for processing of medical devices. Must be able to operate multiple machines maximizing equipment cycle times preventing idle time.
- Mazak Operations; Makino Operations - responsible operating CNC machinery and utilize inspection tools to perform the operations required for processing of medical devices. Responsible for deburring parts coming off the equipment that are satisfactory to the drawing requirements and all necessary in-process testing. Must be able to operate multiple machines maximizing equipment cycle times preventing idle time.
- Citizen Lathe Operations - responsible for operating CNC machinery and utilize inspection tools to perform the operations required for processing of medical devices. Needs to be able to use comparators and thread testing equipment as well as supplemental devices that test product performance. Must be able to operate multiple machines maximizing equipment cycle times preventing idle time.
- CMM/IPC Operations - responsible for operating machinery to perform the operations required for the CMM inspection and in-process cleaning for the processing of medical devices. Must be able to multi-task maximizing equipment cycle times preventing idle time.
A pre-identified candidate is being considered for this role. However, all applications will still be considered.
- A High School diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Ability to learn and adhere to specific procedures according to the department training plan.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and apply documentation such as safety, operating and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse clientele base.
- Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and the public.
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with policies and procedures and in to comply civil rights requirements.
- Demonstrates understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Able to deliver oral and written communications and use electronic systems.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Lean/Six Sigma knowledge is preferred.
- 6 months or more hands-on-experience in manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Demonstrates some awareness of other engineering specialties and upstream stakeholders, including Quality Engineering and New Product Introduction teams.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of equipment effectiveness and manufacturing & maintenance excellence concepts (OEE, SOL, etc.).
- Demonstrates organized, analytical approach to problem solving.
- CAD drawing reading and editing knowledge is preferred.
- Experience operating CNC machines is preferred.
- GD&T and PID drawing interpretation is preferred.
- Vocational/Trade school machining education and/or background is preferred,
- Measuring instrumentation knowledge and/or technique is preferred.
