Maintenance Field Technician - Sam Schwartz

Sam Schwartz, a TYLin Company, is seeking a full-time ITS Maintenance Field Technician in Suffolk County, NY to assist the at a Transportation Management Center (TMC). Tasks include asset management and record keeping; troubleshooting ITS/communication/network failures that include upgrading, replacing, configuring, installing adjusting/reconfiguring, and repairing field devices; confirming functional and intended displays of DMS messages; investigating reports of equipment malfunctions; inventorying operational status of ITS equipment, ITS maintenance contractor oversight and coordination.

Position reports directly to Operations Manager

Support field-related operations, to support the IT Network Administrator, and to provide a level of technical services outlined below. Will be required to travel to remote ITS sites as needed. Primary responsibilities include: 

1. Primary Tasks: ITS Maintenance Field Support Technical Services
2. Inspection, supervision and working with Contractors
3. Enforcing contract technical specifications of equipment, materials and labor during field installations, repairs and modifications by Field Maintenance Contractors
4. Read plans, implement and enforce Work Zone Traffic Control (WZTC)
5. Prepare inspection reports including job descriptions, equipment used, MPT furnished, hours of work, travel time, etc.
6. Tows, deploys and programs PVMS using instructions manual
7. Maintain an asset management and record keeping program at various storage facilities, organize storage facilities, receive equipment from various sources and provide updates on equipment needs
8. Inspect field equipment routinely to enforce maintenance contractor’s requirements to maintain field equipment
9. Cross-train to perform TMC operator tasks
10. Supporting the Traffic Management Center (TMC) managers and system operators to provide real-time condition reports during incidents, roadwork or special events, and related services as requested.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities 

Candidates for this position should be proficient in the following areas:

• Various equipment functions
• Use of equipment manuals
• Operation of medium Heavy Duty 4x4 pick up truck with snow plow
• Operation of a medium warehouse forklift
• Oral and written communication
• Personnel management
• Public, internal and external relations (works well with internal, external and partner groups and individuals)
• Mentor and training new staff, and able to respond to problem situations 24/7/365
• Analytical and organizational kills
• Computer/Software including: MS Office applications, spreadsheets and databases
• Plan and/or schematic reading
• Perform field work on varying terrain and weather conditions
• Possess valid driver’s license

Education and Experience  

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years of experience with inspection of field equipment, supervision of electrical maintenance contractors, and preparation of inspection reports
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience
