Job Description: Maintenance Line Mechanic
Overview: Responsible for following instructions from supervisors, adhering to all safety policies, and assisting in training other mechanics. Duties include troubleshooting, repair, and upkeep of plant machinery and auxiliary equipment. Must accurately read downtime reports, follow checklists, and report repairs and required parts to supervisors.
Essential Functions:
- Implement lockout procedures before any maintenance.
- Follow checklist procedures for repairs and maintenance.
- Read downtime reports and conduct necessary repairs.
- Troubleshoot, identify problems, and make repairs.
- Remove and replace motors and parts.
- Disassemble and rebuild motors.
- Repair or replace worn parts (chains, sprockets, gearboxes, etc.).
- Maintain and repair all parts of the production line.
- Clean the production line before any repair or maintenance.
- Follow all safety guidelines at all times.
- Assist and train personnel as assigned.
Communication:
- Understand and follow directions from supervisors.
- Report repairs and parts needed verbally or in writing.
- Interact and assist in training other mechanics.
- Work with line workers to identify malfunctions.
- Read and comprehend downtime reports, checklists, and settings in English.
Requirements:
- Preferably three years of experience in mechanical work on production machinery.
- Must meet productivity standards and complete work in a timely manner.
- Punctuality and proper timekeeping are essential.
- Supply own hand tools (wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.).
- Skilled in general mechanics, welding, gas torch cutting, and motor replacement.
- Knowledge of fundamental electrical work and experience with conveyors, mixing systems, and extrusion.
- Proficient in troubleshooting, alignment, and adjustment.
- Extensive knowledge of hand tools, air tools, and electrical hand tools.
- Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including clutch brakes and motorized systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift/carry 35-50 pounds, up to 100 pounds.
- Bend, kneel, and twist throughout the shift.
- Apply torque up to 50 pounds.
- Stand for 8-10 hours a day, 6-7 days a week.
- Properly lift and use all tools.
- Hear machine malfunctions and visually identify worn parts.
- Understand ambient noise and light levels, production line alarms, and forklift signals.
Safety:
- Wear helmet, safety goggles, and steel-toed shoes at all times.
- Use earplugs, back braces, and gloves as needed.
- Know all safety procedures for each machine, tool, and chemical.
- Attend all safety training sessions and monthly meetings.
- Address safety issues immediately and report accidents within 24 hours.
- Follow all safety requirements and lockout procedures.
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of tools and their uses.
- Ability to drive a forklift and obtain certification within 90 days.
- Ability to read English (downtime reports and checklists).
- Basic arithmetic skills and knowledge of decimal equivalencies.
- Ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, voltage meter, and caliper.
Work Environment:
- Wear issued uniform properly.
- Work around loud and heavy machinery.
- Indoor facility without air conditioning or heating; some outdoor repairs.
- Up to 4 hours of overtime a day may be required.
- May work 6-7 days a week and different shifts.
- May be placed on call.
- Work in dirty environments with cement and sand dust.
Reasoning Ability:
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Possess strong communication skills to relay information clearly and constructively.
