General Position Description: This position exists for the purpose of performing tasks such as troubleshooting, repair, and installation of production and support equipment. Personally handle general repair work and maintenance on all mechanical components, machinery, motors, and associated hardware. Assist with the assembly and installation of new equipment for electrical and mechanical areas. Use various hand and power tools and operate all types of electronic troubleshooting equipment. Perform routine preventive maintenance and servicing tasks such as cleaning, adjusting and inspections on mechanical equipment. Assist with production and support equipment design, fabrication, installation and training.
Description of essential job functions:
Troubleshoot and repair existing equipment when assigned along with completing preventive maintenance tasks. This requires the ability to accurately diagnose, troubleshoot and repair various types of equipment for both production and support of the plant. Some additional welding; plumbing; carpentry; and minor electrical work will also be necessary. 65%
Design, fabricate, assemble and install, parts, fixtures or entire assemblies as requested by Engineering or Department Managers. 25%
Initiates necessary parts request form for unstocked parts so repairs can be completed. This requires the employee to research equipment files, blue prints, and machine history to determine part numbers or identification of needed part. 5%
Requires documentation of drawings, layouts, time sheets, work orders and cost reduction or safety proposals. 5%
Perform other duties as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Manager or designate.
Qualifications for this position: High school diploma, GED, or Kansas WorkReady Certificate is required. Two or more years of technical training or school within the field, or equivalent education & experience. Previous work in a manufacturing environment as a Maintenance Mechanic with 3 to 5 years experience is preferred.
In order to perform this job satisfactorily, applicant must be able to: Accurately read, write, perform mathematical calculations, understand verbal or written instructions, and provide verbal or written information and instructions to others. Accurately troubleshoot production and support equipment problems. Work continuous shift if requested, and work scheduled and unscheduled overtime along with maintaining a good attendance record. Sustain very good work habits and personal initiative and must work well with others or alone on job assignments. Individual must follow all safety and health rules along with maintaining housekeeping in areas of responsibility. Individual must be able to distinguish colors correctly and read electrical schematics.
Physical requirements of this job: This position has been rated a Level 4 Job under the WorkFit Physical Capacity Profile System. Incumbents must undergo strength and ability tests before being placed in this position. Specific details of Level 4 will be made available during an employment interview, if selected. Additionally, individual must be capable of operating boom lifts, scissor lifts and forklifts once certified. Must be able to work in both hot and cold temperature conditions.
Wage range is $26.24-$27.94 per hour. Benefits go into effect on date of hire. We also offer a Tuition Reimbursement program to those wanting to advance their education.
The Hoisington plant was established in 1974 and employees approximately 210 people. We are a 24/7 operation and produce data communication cables for the telecom industry. Most of our products are sold through distribution centers to large companies such as Google and Verizon.
