POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages and coordinates all activities of the Maintenance department, at the Marshfield, WI manufacturing plant. Provides leadership and strategic planning for Maintenance to accomplish corporate objectives. Develops and implements preventive maintenance activities. Utilizing the CMMS system, ensures all work performed is tracked and properly documented. Responsibilities include managing department staff and budget, controlling costs to within budgeted numbers, maintaining equipment, buildings, grounds and utility systems in optimum working condition. Selects and manages in-house and contract workers engaged in assignments such as painting, masonry, carpentry, welding, electrical wiring and controls, heating and refrigeration, and plumbing systems. Responsible for managing spare parts inventory. Supervises lawn care and other grounds-keeping activities at the Marshfield facility. Prepares departmental activity, manpower utilization, equipment downtime and cost reports. Responsible for ensuring Safety program adheres to corporate policies and meets or exceeds all OSHA requirements. Performs monthly safety inspections of facility, equipment and utilities. Tracks and maintains adherence to all environmental and safety permits and inspections.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Accountable for the direct management and supervision of the Maintenance staff at the Marshfield facility
- Schedules and supervises maintenance activities to ensure an efficient and cost-effective operation
- Schedules repairs or modifications with other plant departments; assigns personnel to specific projects, manages and audits their activities to ensure that work performed is accomplished according to specification and as efficiently as possible to minimize overall cost and maintain production efficiency
- Manages maintenance department costs, including labor, parts, and equipment; maintains costs within budget
- Responsible for selection of maintenance department employees, managing their schedules and work, conducting training, performance evaluation and disciplinary measures
- Selects, manages and works jointly with engineering or construction personnel in performing building structural, plant process, or other construction projects to make sure they conform to specifications and code requirements that necessary permits have been obtained, proper materials are on hand, and that projects proceed on schedule
- Coordinates scheduling and supervises work activities of contractors performing approved capital projects for the company
- Evaluates contractor work, sets expectations with contractors for safety performance, and ensures security of confidential information
- Responsible for security of the Marshfield Plant including alarm systems, doors and entry systems
- The primary objective is to maintain the facility in a secure condition at all times
- Responsible for maintaining and operation of Boilers, chillers, air compressors, waste water and process water treatment equipment
- Maintains and keeps a record of spare parts inventory to guarantee an appropriate stock level of maintenance parts and supplies; orders replacement supplies using an electronic purchasing system
- Manages the process of entering and responding to electronic work orders; utilizes the work order system in planning the schedules of maintenance personnel
- Ensures that proper files are kept on plant equipment and projects including P&IDs, drawings, equipment manuals, and repair history
- Responsible for technical training of maintenance personnel to ensure skill sets required for effective facility maintenance are attained
- Responsible for supporting corporate safety goals for the Marshfield plant and providing on site Safety program adherence
- Responsible for ensuring proper lock out/tag out, confined space entry, hot work, elevated work policies and procedures are followed
- Promotes safe practices in lifting, climbing and bending techniques as well as proper use of and handling of mechanical and electrical equipment and helps manage the site’s safety program
- Supervises janitorial services and ensures that buildings and grounds are maintained, including regular inspection of buildings, roofs, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical systems; initiates repair of maintenance programs as appropriate
- Ensures that lawns are mowed, and that driveways and parking areas are cleared of snow or ice
- Performs duties of maintenance mechanic as necessary
- Provides troubleshooting assistance and resources to maintenance mechanics as necessary
- Performs other related duties as directed by Plant Manager
- Prepares and submits to Plant Manager activity reports, project proposals and cost analysis of replacing or repairing machinery, structures or other equipment
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have specialized training beyond the high school level in the mechanical, electrical and building trades, plus 5 to 10 years of related experience in a supervisory capacity with related industrial work experience
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Continuous physical activity throughout the day such as climbing, balancing, walking, stooping, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting and moving objects up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to operate industrial machinery, work on a personal computer and travel on specific assignments
- Operates a variety of hand-held power and mechanical tools, instruments and a personal computer
- Works inside and outside, noise above ambient level, proximity to moving mechanical parts and will be required to wear appropriate safety equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, gloves, goggles and face shields and other protective equipment as required by the specific job assignment
