Title: Maintenance Technician
Reports To: Maintenance/Engineering Manager
FLSA status: Non-exempt
Salary: $17 - $22/HR
Work Schedule: Mon -Fri 7am-330pm
What is the overall objective/purpose of this position?
To maintain the day to day operations of a manufacturing facility by repairing and maintaining various machines and equipment as well as the building structure itself.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment, production machines and equipment using various tools, such as, hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments
· Maintain and repair 3 company facilities and building structure, as necessary
· Complete tasks in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturers specifications
· Observes and listens to mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of problems and trouble
· Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools; replaces defective parts
· Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
· Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
· Installs special functional and structural parts in devices
· Tests various machines and equipment to test their performance
· Lubricates and cleans machinery and parts
· Sets up and operates drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make repair parts
· Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines
· Performing preventative maintenance
· Completes maintenance request forms
· Monitors any work done by outside contractors
· Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures
· Comply with all quality, safety and work rules and regulations
· Other duties may be assigned as necessary
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must have a mechanical aptitude, proven record of experience outlined in the job desription
Excellent sense of problem solving and ability to work autonomously, or with minimal supervision
Must be able to read and comprehend simple to complicated work instructions
Must possess the ability to manage competing priorities, multi-task
Education and Work Experience:
High school diploma. GED or equivalent experience
Advanced studies in mechanical or technical operations is beneficial
3-5 years of previous experience in a manufacturing facility highly preferred
3-5 years of previous experience working with equipment, plumbing, electrical, heating, a/c systems highly preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle,
or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk;
sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up
to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The work setting of this manufacturing facility provides adequate lighting, noise levels will be moving between moderate to high noise levels. Required Personal Protection Equipment includes Safety Glasses and Hearing Protection for any person in the production area. Additional PPE will be required, i.e. gloves, face masks, face shields, dependent on the specific job being performed and company safety rules and regulations. Because of the nature of this business, the temperature in the production facility can be very hot during the hotter times of the year. Typically, the temperature is more comfortable during the more moderate temperature times of the year. Employees are strongly encouraged to have water at their work area to stay hydrated during their work shift.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will spend most of their time in the production area of the manufacturing facility. The employee will be exposed to loud noises and may be exposed to some fumes. Hearing protection and eye protection must be worn at all times in these areas. The employee may also spend time in other areas of the facility that may be more quiet, where office decorum would be required, i.e. trying to be more quiet to not disturb other work being done, being aware of the work area and keeping it tidy while completing the task.
