JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all electrical, electronic and mechanical equipment used and operated at water treatment plants, pump stations and telemetering stations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment and system components, including but not limited to valves, pumps, motors, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs of electrical components and systems, including but not limited to relays, electric starters, electrical and manual valve operators.
- Repairs and services plant and pump station electronic transmitters, receivers, elevation and flow signals, and pressure signals.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair of pump stations, storage tanks, treatment plants, pressure reducing valves, office spaces and other facilities as necessary.
- Reviews flow charts, pressure charts, etc., to monitor equipment performance
- Maintains an adequate inventory of tools, parts and equipment
- Prepares maintenance records of all equipment/system maintenance and repair work; maintains inventory records.
- Provides daily reconciliations, including work orders, requisitions, and purchase orders.
- Must be able to adequately read and interpret mechanical diagrams.
- Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, co-workers, other department supervisors and employees, engineers, contractors, other government agencies, City/County personnel, sales and service representatives, and the general public.
- Collects water samples at remote sites as needed.
- Transfers power to emergency generators and back-up engines as needed.
- Climbs storage tanks for repairs and inspections.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- On call 24 hours per day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN "TRAINEE"
A High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by one (1) year of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" classification, within 2 years. Must obtain and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
- General understanding of how system operates, names and location of sites.
- Cleaning, inspection, what to look for and how to tell if something is wrong with equipment.
- Knows how to complete preventive maintenance check sheets as well as closing work orders and filing paper work.
- Understands safety policies, and operating procedures.
- Familiar with suppliers and vendors of parts and equipment.
- Inspection of filters, belts, couplings, bearings, makes minor repairs.
- How to turn on/off equipment without disrupting the process.
- Pump packing replacement and adjustment.
- Run/operate emergency generators as well as transfer power.
Training required before advancement
- In house training of facilities, safety, and basic maintenance.
Advancement to Facilities Maintenance Technician
- 1 years' experience at this level, along with meeting the above criteria and training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
A High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to obtain a Distribution Operator "D" classification, within 2 years. Must obtain and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Two (2) years of experience in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair work in an industrial environment; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Should have general understanding of how to operate and conduct basic maintenance of equipment used in a water system. Should have experience with a CMMS program and how it is utilized.
- Assists in training new employees in maintenance procedures.
- Good understanding of all equipment functions and how they affect operations.
- Understanding what the operator monitors, and how he/she controls the process.
- Inspections and replacement of belts, couplings, bearings.
- Understanding of lubricating machinery.
- Pipe fitting principles, Glue, thread, and solder joints, compression and flare fittings.
- Basic fabrication techniques, cutting, welding.
- Performs preventive maintenance of diesel engines.
- Understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Understanding inspection and repair/rebuild or replace of pumps, motors, gearboxes etc.
- Makes all mechanical repairs to equipment.
- Goodunderstanding and repair of Pressure Reducing Valves.
- Alignmentof machinery to include couplings, and belts.
- Knowledgeof the volt/ohm meter, able to read voltages, check/ replace fuses, repairof lighting.
- Basic trouble shooting electrical problems, starters, relays, motors, HVAC circuits, 4-20 ma loops etc.
- Basicunderstanding of PLC's, how to read inputs and outputs when trouble shooting problems.
Training/Certificates required before advancement
- Mechanical certification and or pump certification.
- In house training of operations, pipe fitting, fabrication, engine maintenance.
- In house machinery alignment, basic intro to PLC's, use of volt/ohm meters.
- PRV course.
- Distribution Operator "D" classification.
