Job Summary
The Breast Mammographer is responsible for performing high-quality mammography imaging procedures on patients for the purpose of medical diagnosis and treatment. This role requires a compassionate and patient-focused approach, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients while adhering to established protocols and standards. The Breast Mammographer will work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide accurate and timely diagnostic information.
Key Responsibilities
- Mammography Procedures:
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammograms, including 2D and 3D (Tomosynthesis) imaging, in accordance with physician orders and facility protocols.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, proper positioning, and appropriate exposure levels.
- Assist radiologists during procedures requiring specialized imaging techniques, such as needle localizations and stereotactic breast biopsies.
- Patient Care:
- Greet and prepare patients for mammography procedures, explaining the process and addressing any concerns.
- Ensure patient privacy, comfort, and safety throughout the imaging process.
- Provide post-procedural care instructions and respond to patient questions as needed.
- Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to quality control protocols, including daily calibration of mammography equipment and regular checks of image quality.
- Maintain accurate records of procedures, patient information, and quality control activities.
- Participate in accreditation processes, such as the American College of Radiology (ACR) Mammography Accreditation Program.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety guidelines and radiation protection protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lead shielding.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to mammography, including the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the Radiology Manager/Director promptly.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and ensure efficient workflow.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, providing clear instructions and compassionate care.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on advancements in mammography technology and techniques through ongoing education and training.
- Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing education programs.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- Certification:
- Current ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification in Radiography and Mammography.
- State licensure as required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in mammography.
- Experience with 3D mammography (Tomosynthesis) preferred.
- Preference for candidates with experience in Mammography/Mammogram Diagnostics and Mammo Biopsies.
- Ability to work independently with a high volume of patients.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in mammography equipment and imaging techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to evaluate image quality.

Working Conditions
