About the Location:Hybrid Position:
This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.

SUMMARY
This position is a member of the transportation leadership team sharing responsibility for strategic transportation of product within the Domestic Supply Chain function (Outbound, Inbound, and Digital). The incumbent is responsible for effective management of the transportation strategy team and coordinating, measuring, and improving business processes through the delegation of in-depth projects and analysis. This includes training and developing the team to digest, evaluate, and report out on forecasted financial targets, as well as apply problem-solving principals to unexpected results. The incumbent will participate in the creation of department goals, support improvements to drive cost savings, and partner with internal and external stakeholders on initiatives to collectively offer the best transportation solution for PetSmart.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for directly supervising professional associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
- Leads a team that supports projects through in-depth analysis, reporting requests, and solution improvements. Strives for ways to reduce costs for Outbound/Inbound/Digital Transportation.
- Guides the execution and analysis of transportation providers RFP's , both annual and ad-hoc, as well as maintaining accurate rates within our TMS database.
- Responsible for the systemic/analysis of the master store delivery schedule, formatting, and schedule uploads, as well as assisting in the planning and execution of critical transportation events.
- Works cross-functionally to support the delivery of Supply Chain’s P&L goal % of COGS, diving into and explaining the “whys,” as well initiating cost-saving projects from results.
- Oversees the accurate and timely payment of our transportation provider base.
- Works to educate the business on industry trends and market benchmarking.
- Develops a high performing, customer centric team. Selects, trains, coaches, motivates, conducts performance evaluations, and directs the workflow for staff as well as identifying associate development and growth opportunities.
- Able to demonstrate strong communication skills at all levels of the organization, both verbal and written.
- Able to demonstrate clear understanding and knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing the transportation industry.
- Able to demonstrate extensive knowledge of key cost drivers within the supply chain.
- Able to demonstrate solid analytical and problem-solving skills, formulating recommendations based on data analysis.
- Able to demonstrate proven ability to make sound decisions and drive results.

- Able to demonstrate excellent project management/organizational skills.
- Able to demonstrate solid leadership skills in change management, teamwork, innovation, and relationship building.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferably in Logistics/Supply Chain, IE, or Business.
- 3-5 years’ experience in transportation industry; or 6-8 years of equivalent education and experience.
- Retail or grocery supply chain background is preferred.
- Experience in distribution center and/or warehouse management systems a plus.
- Ability to lead and develop a high functioning team of transportation professionals.
- Candidate must have outstanding human relations skills to build effective relationships with peers, leadership and business partners.
- This position is a competent professional who works independently but also leads a team that performs work which is varied, frequently complex, difficult in nature and requires high level of responsibility.
- Advanced evaluation, originality, and ingenuity are required. Has latitude for unreviewed action or decision.
- Strong understanding of supply chain dashboard metrics preferred.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, and other systems as required.
- Proficient skills in SAP is a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certifications in Lean, Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) is a plus.
