Job Summary:
As a Manufacturing Controls Engineer, you will work closely with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, Master Data and IT teams to create and implement a vast array of system solutions. You should be a well-rounded individual that is technically strong but balances that skill with interpersonal and business knowledge. You will be utilizing Low Code Application Platform (LCAP) to build business applications for the Operations Organization at Darn Tough. You will work at various locations, where you will be assigned to solve specific operations business/manufacturing opportunities. You are expected to be a quick learner that can effectively translate requirements into application functionality, features and add value to our growing company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work on a team to translate customers requirements into specific features, creating an end-to-end solution
- Become an expert in the Jitterbit Vinyl LCAP platform to develop application features
- Help manage, improve reliability and performance of control systems and equipment, supporting all PLC systems, for our sites, focusing on maximized uptime and minimal interruptions.
- Continue building out and supporting our SCADA and MES systems
- Effectively communicate with team members to assist in creating and meeting project goals and solve complex problems
- Using a Lean / Continuous Improvement mindset, identify, communicate and implement changes that improve control systems and communications within the plant, and lead to shortened cycle times, improved quality, etc.
- Learn company methodology to organize features built with the platform. Test features for quality assurance before roll-out. Continue to improve application once in production and address work orders as needed.
- Partnering with our Master Electrician, design and manage plant electrical power distribution systems, PLC control systems and HMI applications. Help identify areas for improvement of controls and communications systems as well as power distribution systems, leading implementation of improvements.
- Assist in creating written capital project requests with clear scope, schedule, resources and justification. Manage capital projects, communicate project status, risks, countermeasures and opportunities through written reports, presentations or conference calls.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or minor in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering and industrial control systems, with direct applications in a manufacturing environment.
- Substantial hands-on electrical engineering experience in areas of PLC controls, HMI development, plant level power distribution, process integration and optimization.
- Proficiency in SQL, Oracle, or other relational database management system.
- Proficiency in SCADA and MES systems. Experience with Ignition a plus
- Experience in developing reports within Power BI, a plus.
- Excellent problem solving and communication skills, both written and verbal English
- Willingness to say "I don't know, but I'll find the answer," ask for help from the team
- Essential to be detail oriented and stay self-motivated under minimal supervision
- Agile framework and associated scrum methodology knowledge (use of Jira boards)
- Skills in one or more computer programming languages (C++, JavaScript, Python, etc.)
- Experience in producing electrical layout and detail drawings/schematics in computer-aided-design software.
- The ability to collaborate cross functionally to develop equipment/process designs.
- Communication skills to understand the customer’s need and coordinate solutions.

- Compiling data and communication regarding electrical engineering projects
- Understanding of and ability to specify instrumentation requirements on capital projects.
- Excellent project management skills including prioritization, organization, resource allocation and business analytics.
Working Conditions:
- Manufacturing environment – exposure to machinery, noise and other adverse conditions for limited periods of time depending on the role
- Flexible nature to manage competing and changing priorities
