What You'll Do:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluates and improves manufacturing processes by design of experiment, and conducting time studies to model production lines; determining production throughput capabilities and line capacities, space requirements, equipment layouts, workflow, standard manning, labor efficiencies, and identifying bottlenecks and practicing the theory of constraints; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; consulting with equipment vendors and observations from operators.
- Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; applying lean manufacturing practices.
- Researches and helps develop short- and long-term strategic improvements to manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, maximize efficiency, improve throughput, increase yields, reduce scrap, and align with business needs.
- Collaborates with Quality Engineering to define standard work processes to assure product and process quality, including design of testing methods for finished- product and process capabilities.
- Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules to estimate future requirements.
- Support Operations by working with Reliability, Automation, and Maintenance teams to keep equipment operational and maximize Operational Equipment Effectiveness.
- Define and develop specific user requirements for procurement of new equipment, lead Safety, Quality, Operations, Reliability, Automation, Tool Room, and Maintenance teams through Site Acceptance Testing and Factory Acceptance Testing to prove-out equipment capabilities.
- Finalizes drawings and specifications for new manufacturing equipment or modifications to existing equipment, following established Engineering guidelines for content and format.
- Supports efforts to set standards for machine/equipment specifications, designs, buyoff criteria, drawings, and other as-required documentation.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis of manufacturing process problems or quality issues and update processes and/or procedures to reflect continuous improvement.
- Lead multiple projects at one time to include planning, project, and capital management, purchasing, installing, runoff and commissioning of manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Provide mentorship Mfg. Engineer – Level I, II, and others as needed.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related college degree) and minimum 8 years engineering experience.
- Microsoft Office Suite with proficiency in Excel and Visio, MS Project or equivalent project management software, AutoCAD, Inventor, or equivalent modeling software.
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and processes; automated and manual assembly processes; tooling, die and fixture design; engineering mechanics, heat transfer, electrics and electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics; control system principles and equipment, and statistical process control.
- Demonstrated knowledge of high mix/volume manufacturing methods, procedures, and cost-reduction techniques in a Lean environment; working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing tools: including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Pull Systems, Cellular Manufacturing and Kaizen events.
- Experience leading project teams preferred.
Mathematical Skills
- Proficient in college-level Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, Statics and Mechanics, and Physics.

- Standard office environment with frequent sitting at desk in adjustable office chair.
- Frequent exposure to manufacturing environment with cement flooring, warehouse setting with specific safety-regulated walking areas.
- Frequent walking, standing in both office and manufacturing environment.
- Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
- Occasional need to access confined space areas.
- Occasional reaching, both overhead and horizontal, with extended reaching as required.
- Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office equipment.
- Frequent use of peripheral eye capability and focused eye capability, while assessing automation issues on manufacturing floor.
- Occasional hand/wrist/finger coordination when troubleshooting process automation issues which involve large and small machinery with moving parts.
- Constant oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as office telephone, cellular phone, and radio transmitters.
- Consistent daily attendance required to ensure timely processing of weekly payroll.
Travel Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally domestically.
Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequent: activity exists 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
