The Computational Physics and Methods Group (CCS-2) is seeking an experienced Marine Biogeochemical Modeler to join our Climate Modeling Team. CCS-2 conducts application-focused methods research across a wide variety of computational physics areas including astrophysics, climate science, radiation transport, shock hydrodynamics, turbulent flows and machine learning and develops software for high-performance computing environments. The Climate Modeling Team within CCS-2 leads two multi-instituational Earth system modeling projects funded by the Department of Energy's Office of Science. Understanding the role that marine biogeochemical (BGC) processes in the Arctic coastal zone play in Arctic warming effects and marine food security are key objectives.
The successful candidate will work on multidisciplinary and cross-organizational teams in a collaborative environment modeling Marine BGC processes in order to understand the impact that such processes have on the Arctic coastal region and beyond. Our research team is seeking a versatile and broadly trained Marine Biogeochemical Modeler who can provide expertise and leadership for the Marine BGC thrusts in existing projects as well as capitalize on emerging opportunities in LANL's Climate Impacts on National Security (CINS) and Climate and Clean Energy (CCE) initiatives. In collaboration with LANL staff scientists, postdocs and students, they will contribute to LANL's climate projects, and produce results that can be published in the scientific literature and presented at technical conferences.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education/Experience: Position requires a Master's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college or university and 6 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). What You Need

- Expertise in Marine Biogeochemistry for Earth systems modeling, including knowledge of numerical methods for chemical and biological models
- Expertise in modifying and running Earth system models on high-performance computing platforms
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills with a record of publications in the scientific literature
- Experience contributing to proposals and/or programmatic scope for scientific research
- Experience interacting with people from other internal and external organizations and programs to create and sustain collaborations
- Ability to mentor junior staff, postdocs, and students
- Eligible to apply for a DOE Q clearance

- Deep knowledge of biogeochemical cycles in both riverine and marine environments, including the two-way interaction between physical and BGC processes

- Excellent understanding of the marine food web that links lower trophic levels (e.g., plankton) to higher trophic levels (e.g., fish, marine mammals)
- Experience with and demonstrated interest in LANL's mission and research environment
