Responsibilities:
What you'll be challenged to do:
The Maryland Transportation Engineering Director will be responsible for the growth and development of the office’s Maryland highway, traffic, and water resources engineering departments, including employee retention and recruitment.
Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):
- Oversee day-to-day operations of Maryland transportation engineering projects, including design-build and design-bid-build of highway, interstate, and interchange design, intersection and safety improvements, and Pedestrian/ADA/Bicycle facility design.
- Provides direction, supervision, and guidance to a team of engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Provides detailed reviews of plan submissions to minimize conflicts, errors, and omissions.
- Conducts business development activities, including pursuit tracking and proposal development oversight.
- Responsible for tracking department budget and financial performance.
- Manage sub-consultants as needed.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required.
- Professional Engineering License is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive engineering and management experience in highway & ADA design.
- Thorough knowledge of MDOT policy and procedures and strong existing client relationships is required.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of major complex highway engineering projects and smaller pedestrian/ADA/Bicycle facility projects.
- Experience with design-bid-build and alternate project delivery.
- Strong working relationships with Maryland Transportation Clients including MDOT SHA, MDTA, MTA, Maryland Counties and Local Agencies.
- Experience in proposal writing and client presentations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook & Power Point), financial management systems, and collaboration software (i.e. Bentley ProjectWise).

This compensation range is specific to the State of Maryland and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; internal peer equity; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Gannett Fleming TranSystems, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $140,000 - $220,000 annually.
