Join us, where we've been named a Top Place to Work in Columbus for 10+ years! We are currently seeking a Materials / Metallurgical Engineer to join our team. The Materials Engineer will work within the Corporate Quality Materials Engineering Team for Worthington Enterprises supporting all manufacturing facilities internationally. The position will be responsible for Metallurgical and Quality oversight of materials (e.g., steel, aluminum, brass) used in the manufacturing process. This position works closely with operations, procurement, engineering & suppliers. You'll have the opportunity to work with team members directly as this role includes travel up to 20% to our internal manufacturing facilities and material suppliers.

What You'll Do
- Collaborate with procurement to identify and develop suppliers for materials used in manufacturing processes. Establish and maintain secondary material suppliers to mitigate potential risks.
- Assist the Quality and Operation departments at each manufacturing facility in addressing material quality issues, supplier auditing, and optimizing material processes. Manage material quality nonconformances within quality system.
- Support a range of material trials covering supplier approval, supplier development, and cost/scrap reduction initiatives. Thoroughly document these activities within the quality system.
- Conduct research aimed at improving materials for manufactured products, focusing on both process and product development.
- Manage and generate material and processing specifications for supplied materials, ensuring alignment with product applications.
Desired Experience
- Metallurgical understanding across various metallic materials (i.e., steel, aluminum, brass) and material processing techniques (e.g., heat treatment, sheet metal forming, welding).
- Knowledge of composites, polymers, and/or drawing lubricants is a plus.
- Experience specifying and interpreting results from a range of metallurgical testing and characterization techniques.
- Proficient in computer-based statistical analysis and reporting tools.
- Ability to manage projects across multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal), teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to all levels of the organization.
- Self-starter comfortable navigating ambiguous situations.
- Relevant experience in supplier quality or project management, particularly with a focus on materials, will be taken into consideration.
