Materials Science Research & Development Engineer - Mainstream Engineering
Rockledge, FL
About the Job
Mainstream Engineering Corporation (MEC) is looking for a motivated, talented, and hands-on Materials Science Research & Development Engineer to take on a significant research role in advancing epitaxial crystal growth using vapor- and liquid- phase techniques. Skills and experience should include epitaxial characterization and metrology, wide bandgap semiconductor test structure characterization, and device modeling. We are particularly looking for candidates with highly focused experience and hands-on experimental work in this area. Some experience in computer-assisted modeling is also highly desirable. This position offers additional opportunities that encompass a variety of innovative materials science and engineering technologies and applications such as: nanomaterials, nanoelectronics, photovoltaics, metallurgy, capacitors, transistors, and additive/advanced manufacturing. MEC is looking for self-motivated problem solvers to identify and advance innovative solutions to real world problems with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The candidate should have at least a bachelor's degree (chemical, materials, electrical, or related engineering degree) with at least one year of relevant experience (employment, university lab, or internships), ideally with specific experience in, but not limited to, any of the following areas:
- Experience with the application of combined numerical methods and analysis to applied research and experimental methods and design;
- Hands on experience in:
- Materials epitaxial fabrication using methods such as chemical vapor deposition, physical vapor methods, seeded solution growth, thin film growth/deposition, and metallization;
- Chemical, electrochemical, microstructural, crystallographic/metallurgical, spectroscopic, and mechanical characterization, and analyses;
- Wet chemical and clean room laboratory setting for materials preparation, etching, handling, and;
- The conception, design, and fabrication of experimental systems.
Candidates should have interest in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Epitaxial growth and characterization
- Semiconductor test structure fabrication
- Optoelectronics characterization
- Multiphysics Modeling
Unique aspects of employment at MEC include opportunities to:
- Work on challenging problems for government and private-sector clients as a part of a multidisciplinary team;
- Advance technologies beyond the state-of-the-art and transition them to production;
- Experience freedom of movement between multiple projects and multidisciplinary technology areas;
- Gain exposure to the full product development process from conception to manufacturing;
- Ability to explore and develop your own interests, manage your own projects, diversifying your experience as well as carving out a niche for yourself in applied research and development, and;
- Publish technical and peer-reviewed manuscripts as well as patent innovations.
Minimum Requirements
- B.S. in chemical, materials, or a related engineering discipline;
- U.S. Citizenship, and;
- GPA > 3.3 at all degree levels.
