The Opportunity: Skilled US is seeking a part-time GED Instructor who is responsible for teaching essential skills to students with diverse academic levels, integrating GED skills in math, science, reading, and language arts, along with fostering awareness of social justice, community issues, and cultural understanding. The instructor helps students meet their academic goals, preparing them for the GED exam and supporting them in overcoming educational barriers.
Key Deliverables:
- Instruct and prepare students: Deliver lessons that cover necessary content for the GED exam, including mathematics, science, English, and literature.
- Assess readiness: Evaluate student progress and determine their readiness for GED testing.
- Lesson planning: Develop, implement, and adjust lesson plans throughout the academic year to address the individual needs of students.
- Administrative duties: Maintain student records, grade papers, and keep accurate grade books. Submit reports as required.
- Curriculum integration: Utilize diverse curriculum resources and incorporate GED-related competencies, goals, and objectives into lessons.
- Student support: Tutor students individually as needed, offering personalized support to ensure comprehension and retention of key concepts.
- Student engagement: Create incentives and motivational strategies to increase student engagement and retention in the program.
- Collaboration: Work with program coordinators to align educational initiatives and ensure that student needs are effectively met.
- Evaluation: Observe and assess students’ performance, providing feedback to improve learning outcomes.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working with adult learners, including those who have exited due to life circumstances.
- Knowledge of GED subject areas (math, science, social studies, and language arts).
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to create and adapt lesson plans for students with varying academic levels.
- Two years of experience within GED adult student services.
- Knowledge of workforce development career pathways.
- Proficiency in working with spreadsheets (Excel), databases, and PowerSchool or Inters.
- Understanding of career advising and education best practices.
- Experience in adult education training.
- Must possess excellent skills in active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, social perceptiveness, critical thinking, writing, judgment and decision making, active learning, complex problem solving, and service orientation.
- Knowledge of social work case management is an added advantage.
- Being bilingual is an added advantage.
Availability:
- This hybrid position requires in-person interaction with students, training partners, and community partners as needed.
