Job Description
In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary R&D engineering team developing and sustaining medical diagnostic instrumentation including mechanical design and manufacturing automation. You will be expected to bring hands-on experience and knowledge in instrument development and high-volume manufacturing while utilizing sound engineering judgement and first principles. You will be expected to design, prototype, and test various mechanical concepts to provide rapid feedback and direction to the broader development team to drive fast and decisive decisions. Detailed mechanical design for instrumentation and electromechanical assemblies is a must. This includes experience with servo/stepper motors, motor controllers, sensor selection, mechanism design, visions systems, interfacing microcontrollers and PLCs, and basic programming with Python, C# or similar. Interfacing with outside vendors on rapid prototyping, machining, molding, and advanced manufacturing processes is required. This is a fast-paced position that demands the ability to quickly adapt to evolving changes within the instrument, assay, and user needs. You will be working across functional groups such as Systems Engineering, Assay Development, Manufacturing, and Process Transfer. Clear communication, the ability to collaborate with others, and being a self-starter are a must.
Required Skills
+ Strong understanding of mechanical engineering product design fundamentals
+ Mechanical design for electromechanical instrumentation and automation
+ Heat transfer and thermal FEA analysis
+ Develop structural analysis models of mechanical assemblies
+ Demonstrated experience in transfer complex mechanical designs to manufacturing
+ Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling, detailed drawings, and GD&T
+ Stack up tolerance analysis of complex design system
+ Creating and releasing 3D CAD designs and documentation in PDM Works
+ Data acquisition, sensor interfacing, sensor selection, and signal processing sensor data
+ Selection, application of various motor technologies (stepper, DC ,servo, AC, etc.)
+ Microcontroller programming (Python, C, C++, or similar)
+ Knowledge and experience in application programming (C# or similar)
+ Stress/Strain analysis include FEA
+ Electrical breadboarding
+ Design and build of manufacturing Fixtures
+ Experience in production fabrication techniques (machining, sheet metal, forming, molding, etc.)
+ Design For Manufacturing and Design For Assembly
+ Technical report writing
+ Creating, sourcing, and sustaining mechanical assembly bill-of-materials
+ Coordinating with suppliers, sourcing to facilitate initial prototype and production builds
+ Communicate and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Evaluate and recommend design modifications based on prototype and breadboard systems
+ A resourceful problem-solver with the ability to be self-directed

Preferred Qualifications
+ 6+ years actively involved in the design of instrumentation in the medical device industry
+ 6+ 3D solid modelling design tools experience utilizing SolidWorks and PDM Works
+ Design and analysis of microfluidic systems
+ Collaborate with the rest of the Engineering team in the fabrication of test apparatus and equipment as well as the development of methods and procedures for testing products and systems
The annualized base salary range for this role is $93,300 to $135,100 and is bonus eligible. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
