Job Summary
- The Medical Assistant supervises and organizes offices, ensuring smooth operations and communication with diverse populations. They possess knowledge of medical coding, terminology, and healthcare delivery systems, and participate in competency improvement activities.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates ability to communicate with individuals of varying populations (pediatric, geriatric) as well as those with visual, hearing, and speech impairments.
- Has thorough knowledge and understanding of basic medical coding, medical terminology, healthcare delivery systems, medical assistant lab skills, medical office management/procedures, medical law and ethics, pharmacology and record information management systems.
- Assist in a variety of administrative and clinical tasks within the medical setting under supervision.
- Prepares written documentation according to funding and regulatory standards.
- Shall ensure compliance and participation with competency improvement activities including, but not limited to, credentialing, continuing medical education (per CMA criteria), maintaining status as Certified Medical Assistant, and professional improvement activities.
- Demonstrates good organizational, verbal/written communication, computer, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Educational
- Medical Assistant Certification or Registration required. Must submit evidence of application and successful completion of exam requirements to obtain the status of either Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Continued employment beyond probationary period is contingent upon receipt and ongoing maintenance of this certification.
Basic Qualifications
- Two years of progressively more responsible experience in providing medical assistant services within a family practice setting under the supervision of a fully licensed physician and office administrator preferred.
- Two years of experience in medical billing and medical record management activities preferred.
- Two years of experience in utilizing ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding preferred.
- Specialized training, skills and abilities: Lived experiences with behavioral health issues are desired.
Trauma Informed System of Care:
A trauma-informed approach to service delivery emphasizes physical and emotional safety, choice, empowerment, and trustworthiness for customers. Physical Requirements:
- Professional office environment that generates noise from computer equipment/peripherals.
- Possible exposure to health risks (violence and infectious diseases).
- Sometimes lifts, carries, or moves objects up to 25 lbs.
- May be required to work variable hours/shifts.
