Position Summary
Performs professional psychiatric services involving the responsibility for the psychiatric, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of clients within the Article 31 Outpatient Program and Children’s Outpatient Program.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Conducts individual psychotherapy, and drug therapy for Article 31 Outpatient Program clients for both children and adults.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders
- Review patients’ medical history and collect additional information from family members and psychologists as needed
- Evaluate patients’ emotional, behavioral and mental state through discussion, observation and analysis
- Develop comprehensive treatment plans prescribing medication as needed.
- Consults with other medical professionals and psychologists.
- Educate family members or guardians on supporting patients plan of care.
- Regularly following up with the patient to check progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
- Review and sign off on clinical documents, ensuring clinical quality.
- Participates as a team member in weekly clinical and consultation meetings with other clinical staff concerning the diagnosis and treatment of clients.
- Provides clinical consultation with Nurse Practitioners and team members.
- Conducts clinical team trainings for internal and external stakeholders.
- Promotes the emotional well-being of teenagers and kids as well as adults.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain ongoing communication collateral providers involved with the program and individuals served.
- Always communicate in a respectful manner with all people including the people we support, supervisors, other valued team members, and members of the community.
- Responsible for the oversight and consultation of the nurse practitioner of the Article 31 Outpatient Program.
- Review and sign off on clinical documents, ensuring clinical quality and continuity of service documentation.
- Conduct trainings and learning seminars to clinicians and prescribers within the various clinical programs within the agency.
- Act as an integral part of the Integrated Care Committee offering feedback and response.
- Monitor assigned clients progress on a monthly and on an as needed basis.
- Ensure all records of individuals assigned are kept up to date (paper and digital).
- Attend committee meetings and program screenings/tours as required or assigned.
- Ensure all calls are responded to 365/7 in regards to medication management.

Education, Work Experience, and Competencies
- Graduation from an accredited Medical School and is licensed as a physician by the N.Y.S. Department of Education.
- Minimum of 8 years clinical experience working with IDD/MI population
- Minimum of 2 years working with children’s population.
- Licensed to treat children with mental or behavioral disorders; required.
- Valid NPI number
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
- Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent communication skills
- Valid NYS Driver’s License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for FREE
- No convictions for crimes that preclude a person from working with members of a vulnerable population
Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, geographic location, relevant skills, schedule worked, and all other factors permitted under federal, state, and local laws.
