About the Job
The Northwestern Medical Group (NMG) Medical Director of Medical Specialties partners with department leadership and administration to ensure the efficient operation of our organization. The medical director's responsibilities include coordinating medical teams, achieving the tactical and quality goals that drive the strategic plan forward, helping to support our mission. This director also works with their triad partners to ensure commitment and compliance with the organization’s policies, systems, and agendas. The Medical Director will work to improve the overall quality of care provided by NMC while also leading to enhance relationships with vendors.
To be a successful leader, the medical director should be dedicated to promoting trust and professionalism within our internal and broader external community. They must possess and role model, strong managerial and organizational skills, as well as excellent medical knowledge. The medical director must understand and embrace change management as it relates to continual process improvement.
Education:
- A Medical degree and board certification in your specialty.
- A license and certification to practice medicine in Vermont.
Experience:
- Five or more years' experience in clinical medicine.
- Experience in clinical leadership.
- Experience in hospital administration preferred.
Other Skills:
Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Good computer and electronic record skills. Excellent managerial and organizational skills.
Reports To: Chief Administrative/Ambulatory Officer (CAO)
Supervises: Medical Staff (Physicians and APPs)
Other Contacts: CMQO, CFO, COO, Quality, Surgery Service Chief, President of the Medical Staff, Nurse management, Patients and Families.
SCOPE: NMG surgical specialties, including, but not limited to, General surgery, Orthopedic surgery, OB/GYN, ENT, Ophthalmology.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Model and champion High Reliability principles.
- Assist training, continuing education, and promotion of a compassionate culture.
- Recruit and manage physicians and APPs.
- Examine and coordinate efficient and effective medical operations in the clinic, operative suites, and inpatient unit.
- Collaborate with nurse and administrative leaders in a triad structure to drive process improvements to achieve NMC Quality Plan goals.
- Work with the Quality team to advance projects of operational and strategic importance.
- If not also elected as Service Chief, work with Surgery service chief on credentialing, bylaws, or code of conduct issues.
- Engage with the CAO and directors in understanding the facility's capital and operating budget specific to their area(s) of responsibility.
- Develop, update, and amend medical policies as needed.
- Develop cooperation between physicians and staff to standardize care and minimize waste to improve efficiency.
- Evaluate and manage interdepartmental relationships to improve the staff and patient experience.
- Ensure staff and facilities' compliance with regulations and codes.
- Keep your medical knowledge, experience, and licenses up to date.
