Position Summary: The Medical Director of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) Department is responsible for the clinical operations and the clinical development of medical staff in both Psychiatry and the BHUC Department. The Psychiatry Department is a subsection of our BH department. This department is staffed with psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners who support the health center patients with psychiatric care, consultants for primary care providers, and support the psychiatric nurse practitioner residency program. The BHUC Department is a new multidisciplinary department of behavioral health and psychiatric medical staff who provide acute BH and psychiatric care. Due to the wide scope of practice, the medical director will need to be an experienced psychiatrist. This Medical Director will work closely with operations leadership to ensure all patients obtain timely and safe access to both BH and psychiatric care.

Responsibilities:
- Oversees the clinical operations of the departments and day to day clinical issues that arise
- Mentors and coaches providers and holds them accountable for the standard of clinical care and clinical documentation
- Collaborates with all other clinical departments for integration, consultation, and support.
- Collaborates with the ED and Pedi Same Day to ensure that all patients in the BHUC get access to medical care as needed.
- Collaborates with local CBHC for any patient care workflows and patient transfers
- Maintains a clinical schedule within psychiatry and BHUC.
- Development and updating departmental clinical policies and procedures
- Oversees Clinical Quality Management of the department
- Assists the departments in annual performance improvement projects
- Collaborate with the IT department for data reporting and validating IT reports
- Assists in the clinical portion of grant writing and reporting
- Works closely with coding and billing departments to assure proper coding and fund allocation
- Fosters an environment of service excellence and reviews patient surveys and resolves patient complaints
- Participates in hiring, orientation and onboarding of new providers
- Meets with the provider team at least weekly and maintains continuous and timely communication of any new items or updates to patient care or workflow
- Utilizes the clinical leader team for support and guidance on complex issues
- Provide psychiatric consultation to psychiatric NPs and BH providers and primary care providers
- Assists administrative director with the annual budget
- Performs annual reviews, Ongoing Professional Performance Evaluations (OPPEs), Focused Professional Performance Evaluations (FPPEs), and peer review.
Job Components
- 20 clinical hours (25 payroll hours)
- Clinical hours may include precepting NP residents and clinical consultation to psych NP and primary care providers
- 15 administrative hours will be spent in Psychiatry and BHUC to include the above noted responsibilities and leadership responsibilities
Miscellaneous
- Maintain excellent punctuality and attendance to include completion of clinical work to include clinical documentation within 72 hours of the visit.
- Promote a sense of “team work” through demonstration of self-direction and self-motivation. Solve problems independently or know when to seek consultation.
- Displays outstanding customer service skills when interacting with all EBNHC customers according to the ACE model.
- Adheres to all EBNHC and departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in required departmental activities and meetings.
- Perform other related duties.
Organizational Competencies
- Reads, understands and complies with all Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission policies, requirements set forth by the United States Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration pursuant to Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, applicable State regulations and guidelines, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at EBNHC.
- Upholds procedures and systems to safeguard the confidentiality of all patient and employee information.
- Upholds safety policies, practices, and procedures including safety, fire safety, electrical safety, proper body mechanics and material handling, office/ergonomic safety and other employee safety measures.
Educational Requirements
- Board certified psychiatric MD
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, 1 year experience in acute psychiatry, and 2 years of medical leadership experience.
- Current MD licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Experience Requirements
- Knowledge of the standard of practice of psychiatry and acute BH and psychiatric care.
- Ability to use data to evaluate outcomes required
- Working knowledge and experience with the Epic electronic medical record systems, performance dashboards, database products, and analysis tools
- Must have the ability to lead change in an organization and possess excellent interpersonal, communication and teaching skills
