The Rosebud Indian Reservation has large areas of Ponderosa Pine Forest scattered in its grasslands; and deep valleys are defined by steep hills and ravines, often with lakes dotting the deeper valleys. It's 922,759 acres including 20 communities. The tribal headquarters is in the community of Rosebud. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe, more properly known as Sicangu Lakota Oyate, or Burnt Thigh People, are descendants of the Sicangu Oyate people of the Town Division of the Oceti Sakowin or Seven Council Fires. Historically, they were warriors and hunters and expert horsemen. Native plants and wildlife were very important to the Sicangu people and continue to be today.

About the Facility – Rosebud Hospital (RBH)
As a 35-bed comprehensive medical/surgical hospital located in Rosebud, South Dakota, it has an active obstetric and pediatric department. The Rosebud HIS Hospital offers a full range of services, including dental, vision, and 24-hour ambulance services. The hospital and several field clinics are staffed by physicians, nurse/midwives, and physician assistants. An optical department and dental care are also offered. The hospital is the primary source of healthcare for the Rosebud Sioux people, who reside across 20 communities, some of which lie outside the boundaries of the reservation.

Medical Lab Technologist - RESPONSIBILITIES (listed are included but not limited to)
- The Medical Lab Technologist performs diagnostic laboratory examinations for patients after evaluation by healthcare providers.
- Independently operate high-complexity laboratory equipment according to department needs.
- Conduct proper patient identification (using 2 identifiers) and explain the methods of procedures, including special collection instructions, to obtain the best possible laboratory results.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and capillary collections, on patients of all age groups.
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and standard laboratory protocols.
- The Medical Lab Technologist maintains a quality control system for daily laboratory operations, adhering to CLIA, HIPAA, and JCAHO standards, and ensuring acceptance/rejection of quality control results using Levey Jennings criteria.
- Perform a variety of routine to highly complex tests, including but not limited to hematology, chemistry, blood banking, urinalysis, serology, reference testing, and microbiology.
- Maintain records for all laboratory functions, including equipment repairs, surveys, and testing documentation, in compliance with HIPAA and CMS/JCAHO regulations.
- Communicate effectively with staff, including notifying them of any equipment repairs or downtime.
- Maintain accurate daily records of patient workload and examinations.
- The Medical Lab Technologist assists in emergency situations such as cardiac arrests, including performing CPR and recognizing/responding to anaphylaxis.
Medical Lab Technologist - REQUIREMENTS
- Must have twenty-four (12) months in a hospital lab setting within the last 3 years' experience.
- Must have a B.S. Degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.
- Must be certified in Medical Technology by the appropriate agency.
- Must have certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
- Must have certification in Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
