Job Overview:
Medical Services Worker (EMT-B) (Logistics Specialist) functions as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for services, within their scope of practice, for support of NCDPS Hurricane Support on-site emergency and disaster efforts.
Each applicant interested in supporting in North Carolina will need to be ready to deploy and arrive at the designated site within 24-48 hrs. from the time of notice. Each applicant will need to complete an onboarding packet. It is uncertain as to the locations where personnel will be needed but will be located at staging areas established by State Agencies in various regions of the state.
Labor Rates: The following rate includes labor wages, lodging, per diem, and travel.
Registration Specialist Rate: $28/hr.
Overtime Rate: Time and a half
Shift: Up to 12 hrs./day – Up to 7 days/week

Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Fully unencumbered EMT licensure or certification following issuing state requirements and the ability to be favorably credentialed.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Responsible for providing a limited inventory of medical supplies including durable medical equipment (DME) to meet the needs of sheltered individuals.
- Assisting the SCRS Medical Lead with shelter site assessments and development of initial medical needs
- Coordinating the setup of designated medical treatment areas with the SCRS Medical Lead and Medical Support Specialists
- Providing and maintaining medical supplies and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) for designated medical treatment areas
- Coordinating with the SCRS Medical Lead and the SCRS Logistics Section Chief to facilitate the ordering and delivery of needed medical supplies and equipment following established procedures.
- Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products.
- Have experience in emergency response services.
- Records and maintains examinee information following standard protocols and the Privacy Act.
- Identifies the signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions.
- Thoroughly exercises skill in initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making daily.
- Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
- May require working overtime when necessary.
- Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform assigned tasks/be drug-free.
Physical Requirements:
- The position will require walking, standing, or sitting for periods of up to or beyond 10 to 12 hrs. each day.
- Under urgencies or emergencies, the incumbent may need to run, sprint, or run up or down stairs.
- May require bending, stooping, and lifting to 40+ lbs. as required for patient care and transport.
- Must be able to perform duties in an indoor or outdoor environment.
