About the Job
The licensed mental health clinician will work in tandem with law enforcement officers to include all public safety officers who request assistance. The Columbus Police Department will follow procedures dealing with persons dealing with mental health issues as prescribed in existing State Law(GA Code 37-3-41 and 37-3-42) and departmental policy.
- Assists in coordination with a receiving facility when it is determined that the individual needs crisis stabilization.
- Thinks quickly and effectively to address an emergency and follows through with appropriate interventions.
- Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions based on standards of care/practice.
- Evaluate the individual's safety risk to self or others and initiate 1013 or 2013 as appropriate.
- Provides therapeutic de-escalation as needed.
- Provides screening, clinical assessment, mental status evaluation, therapeutic intervention, clinical education, and disposition with individuals and their families in the community in response to a behavioral health crisis call.
- Conducts follow-up assessments as needed.
- Works in the field with police officers assisting them with individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
