About the Job
Reports to the Director of Imaging Services. Manages staff providing patient care services and assists with managing the overall operations of the department. Contributes to the development/revision of policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care. Serves as a representative of the department and acts as a liaison with other departments.

Manages the daily activities of department staff to ensure high quality, efficient patient care by:
- Maintaining clinical skills and providing direct patient care as staffing patterns demand. Working with staff to develop interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Acting as a resource person and role model for radiology staff.
- Assisting with service recovery, resolving customer concerns, conducting investigations and intervening when immediate attention is needed and reporting results to the appropriate person.
- Coordinating staff work schedules, predicting short- and long-term staffing needs and making adjustments in staffing levels.
- Ensuring the availability of equipment, supplies or other resources required for patient care.
Assists the Director with managing the overall operations of the department by:
- Participating in interviewing and the selection of new staff.
- Preparing and giving performance appraisals, coaching and, if necessary, disciplining staff as directed.
- Coordinating Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities.
- Providing input into the formation of capital and operating budgets; also assisting with the implementation of cost-efficient programs.
- Conducting product analysis and pursuing cost saving initiatives.
- Assisting with the development, implementation and evaluation of departmental goals, policies, procedures or standards of care.
- Participating in Hospital committees and activities as assigned.
- Assists director in preparing for department meetings as directed.
- Assisting in approving payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
- Interpreting, enforcing and supporting Memorial Hospital policies, procedures, protocols and the terms and conditions of the Union bargaining agreement.
- Ensuring that the accreditation standards established by various regulatory bodies (i.e., Joint Commission, State Board of Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, etc.) are maintained.
- Assumes responsibilities as acting Director in director's absence.
- Effectively rounding to maintain accessibility and visibility to department associates.
Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:
- Completing other job-related duties and special projects as directed.
Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Bachelor's degree and a current license to practice as a Registered Technologist in Indiana. A minimum of three years of radiology experience in an acute care setting including one year of experience in a leadership role is required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Requires in-depth knowledge of radiology practices, equipment, policies, procedures and techniques utilized within the department.
- Demonstrates solid management skills needed to provide effective direction and manage the effective utilization of resources; also requires the ability to promote teamwork.
- Requires the interpersonal and communication skills necessary to build and maintain effective working relationships and interact in a highly effective manner with all levels of staff. Also requires the ability to disseminate information in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrates excellent planning and organization skills necessary for project planning and to coordinate the activities of diverse groups of individuals.
- Demonstrates proficiency in computer skills (i.e., email, word processing and spreadsheet applications).
- Requires a strong customer service orientation.
Working Conditions
- Works in a patient care environment requiring physical exertion, frequent changes in job demands, certain undesirable patient care activities and possible exposure to bio-hazards.
- Requires schedule flexibility due to the department's 24 hours per day, 7 days per week operation.
Physical Demands
- Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e., to remain on feet and walk for long periods of time, ability to push wheelchairs and carts, to lift or pull patients or supplies, to provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
