Position Summary
We are currently looking for a Mid-level Test Engineer who is self-motivated, a critical thinker and with a strong technical background, to join the Thales Radar Test Engineering Team in Overland Park, Kansas. This team is responsible for development and test of a next generation state of the art secondary radar system for the FAA, as well as providing deployment site support. The Test Engineering team guides all technical aspects of system test through the formal test process. With inputs from the system architects, the Test Engineering team defines the test approaches and test success criteria for each system requirement which result in integration and test procedures to validate the system to customer requirements. Additionally, the Test Engineering team applies their knowledge of the system's hardware, software, and networks to support and conduct test design reviews and perform system integration on multiple radar subsystems and external interfaces. The Test Engineering team also conducts formal in-plant test, and on-site development test campaigns for the validation of the FAA secondary radar system.
Essential Functions / Key Areas of Responsibility
As an integral part of the Test Engineering team, the Mid-Level Test Engineer has individual responsibility for a subset of each phase of the test program as defined below:
Responsible for working on all phases of the test program, including planning, test approach and test success criteria development, test procedure development, test dry-runs, test conduct and test report development
Responsible for mapping requirements into Test Phases, Test Events, Test Methods, Test Procedures and Test Cases
Responsible for formulating and defining effective test approaches and success criteria through research and fact-finding to solve complex testing problems
Responsible for system integration, debug (both hardware and software) and root cause analysis throughout the design, test and deployment phases.
Responsible for conducting formal on-site development tests in the presence of the FAA and other witnesses
May be required to conduct formal on-site development tests regression in the presence of the FAA and other witnesses
Responsible for performing data analysis on data collected at various stages of test
Participation in developing Test Design Review Material in accordance with requirement test approaches.
May be required to participate in field test activities, primarily equipment tuning and optimization.

Minimum Requirements: Skills, Experience, Education, Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Certifications, Language
Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or appropriate engineering field and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant system engineering and/or test engineering experience in any elements of Communications, Navigation, Surveillance or Air Traffic Management.
Understanding and/or experience of execution of a Formal Test process/program.
Experience with creation, definition, analysis, integration and maintenance of system requirements.
Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
Experience developing verbal and written communications and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working with and/or deploying surveillance systems such as Primary Radar, Secondary Radar, ADS-B, and Multilateration systems.
Prior experience working with surveillance data structures.
Prior test experience in US Government contracts in either a prime contractor or sub-contractor organization.
Understanding of air traffic management systems and operations.
Working with cross-functional teams (systems engineering, modeling and analysis, program management, product development, etc.) to complete test campaigns.
Familiar with ASTERIX standards.
Ability to stay cool under pressure.
Capable of influencing team members from multiple disciplines.
