About the Job
South State Bank is in the process of acquiring a Dallas native organization and will be absorbing the bank's models. They are building out their model validation team to validate financial crimes-related models including AML, BSA, sanctions, and fraud models.
- Model Validation: Conduct thorough validation of financial intelligence unit models, including AML, BSA, sanctions, and fraud detection models, ensuring they meet regulatory and internal standards. This involves rigorous testing and evaluation to confirm the models’ accuracy and reliability.
- Risk Assessment: Evaluate the risk associated with model usage, identifying potential weaknesses and recommending improvements to enhance model robustness and accuracy. This includes assessing the impact of model limitations on overall risk management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure models comply with relevant regulations and guidelines, such as those from the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other regulatory bodies. Stay updated with regulatory changes and incorporate them into model validation processes.
- Data Analysis: Perform detailed data analysis to assess model performance, including back-testing, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing to ensure models are reliable under various scenarios. Use statistical tools and software to analyze large datasets effectively.
- Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation of validation processes, findings, and recommendations, maintaining clear and detailed records for audit and regulatory review. Ensure documentation is easily understandable and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with model developers, risk management teams, and compliance officers to communicate validation results and collaborate on model improvements. Facilitate discussions to align model validation with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Monitoring: Implement ongoing monitoring processes to track model performance over time, ensuring models remain effective and up-to-date with evolving financial intelligence patterns. Develop metrics and dashboards to report on model performance regularly.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to validate and challenge models, ensuring they are built on sound methodological foundations. Stay informed about the latest developments in model validation techniques and tools.
- Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to junior team members on model validation techniques and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Mentor team members to build their expertise and confidence in model validation.
- Reporting: Generate detailed validation reports for senior management and regulatory bodies, clearly communicating model performance, risks, and recommended actions. Ensure reports are comprehensive, accurate, and tailored to the audience’s needs.
